HUMANE BOX TRAP 30X11X12
P**D
Decent Setup, quality grade wire meshing, but not raccoon proof.
Well, I got this for critter problems around the house... ranging from possums, armidillos an elusive skunk (still not caught) and finally raccoons.3 Possums, and a small/medium sized raccon caught and released miles away with no problems. However, a bigger medium sized raccoon beat the hell out of the inside of this trap overnight. Raccoons are renown for their craftiness and this does not bode well for the exposed moving switch parts that reside inside the trap... namely, the long metal pole attached to the hinged trigger plate mounted on the floor of the trap. The raccoon bent the hell out of the trigger pole and Somehow (seems to defy physics) actually removed the pool loop from the trigger plate on the floor. The loop was still closed... they're amazingly dexterous. I was able to get the loop back onto the tray, but the trigger pole will never be the same, and neither will the contorted bait plate... which causes a less effective trap because the two tend to bind and not slide, thereby springing the trap. I'm attempting a return with the vendor now (2 months since purchase). I like the trap, I just caution those with a raccoon problem to perhaps try a conibear kill trap and save themselves from tearing up your humane one. Works great on less ingenuitive or more docile species though!

Trap needs more work
I had an old trap borrowed from someone and caught many raccoons with it. It was made of very strong material and the trap trigger mechanism was very simple and dependable. Unfortunately I begin to feel somewhat guilty about borrowing the trap all the time thus I purchased this new one....big mistake. As is normal with most new things the trap was made out of much lighter material than the old one and the trigger mechanism had been dramatically changed (probably new and improved) and was not near as dependable of the the old trap. In fact, it did not work at all the way it originally came to me. After bending the trip wire several different ways I did get it to somewhat work and finally did catch the neighbors cat! In short, it you do purchase this item plan on doing some work on it to make it dependable. Right now mine is sitting in my shop and my friend is bringing his old one back down for me to use. Although I am not sure that it justifies the two stars that I left the trap does have a back door that makes it easier to put the bait into the trap.04/10/2013 - Update...wish I had not originally given it 2 stars! If the trip does work and you actually do trap a raccoon it just may unlatch it and get out...just happened last night.

not the best cat trap
I have had two cats who went inside and ate all the food without triggering the trap, because the panel where the cat was supposed to step on was pulled up so high when it was set that some cats that were more cautious avoided stepping on it when they ate. However, I was lucky enough to trapped two other feral cats, but at some places the wire were not welded smoothly so when they banged their heads and faces against the trap trying to get out they ended up hurting themselves; I had to clean the blood from the inside afterward, which was a pain. The only good thing about the trap was its two doors, which made it easier to care for the feral cats before and after the vet trip.

Best trap!
I live on a street with many vacant houses and feral cat breeding has been a problem....well not any more. It has trapped 10 animals and its day 3. If you have used traps before, you know how difficult it can be to transfer animals but the sliding back door is perfect. I would definitely recommend spending a little more to get this fabulous and humane trap over cheaper models.edit: I had one problem. One night I caught 2 giant possums in this one trap and one of them had wedged his lower jaw into one of the square holes. He was stuck very good and I nearly had to break his K9 tooth to free him. I released them where they were because I have nothing against wildlife that keeps to itself. The bloody experience left me feeling guilty and less eager to leave the trap out. I realize that it was a freak incident and not the traps fault by design.

Humane Animal Box Trap
A definite A+ for the speed with which my order was handled and delivered! The humane trap with rear sliding door was easy to set and easy for releasing the trapped animal. Desired to trap a feral cat to take to a veterinary clinic - but, alas, caught a possum instead - twice. Opened the rear door, and the first one wandered away - so easy. The second one, trying to bite his way out, got his jaw / teeth caught under the bottom of the trap door - and had to be "humanly" released. He, too, wandered away - happy to be free. Only other problem - the rescuer received a cut from the rough edges of the clipped wire on the cage. Would I still order it again - yes. Now to catch that feral who needs to see a vet!

Safeguard animal box
I got 4 of these and I set 4 traps and I had the racoon in the box within 1 to 2 days. I released him and some little ones down on a nearby farm so this was a great invcestment for me. If I had called trappers out it would have cost anywhere from $200 to $400. Im glad that I did not do that because now I am ready for the next time around because I actually own the traps now. So I thank you for that and Safeguard makes a superior product here because most of these are 16 gauge wire very thin and these are 14 gauge some thicker and definitely stronger as not to bend. I buy anything that I can from Amazon and certainly when no shipping charges apply. Thanks again, Amazon and Safeguard.Craig

Not for kittens
I purchased two of these traps to try to capture the feral cats roaming around my house. Worked wells for cats of considerable weight, but the kittens still roam. They were able to get into the trap and eat the food and leave, not setting off the trap door. Nothing wrong with the trap itself, just not the perfect trap for my purpose. The rear door is a great feature. Caught a few cats I shouldn't have and easy to set them free.
