I've been hunting for the past year for a replacement for Nourish, my favorite shampoo that was discontinued by Trader Joe's. It cleaned very well without leaving any film. It was great, basic shampoo. Odd that it is so hard to find a replacement.There appear to be many former Nourish users who were looking for a substitute. For a while, it was a popular topic. I tried several options that didn't clean well. Most were expensive. All had too many additives. Giovani 50:50 was a suggestion on Reddet and it is excellent for cleaning, requires about the same or less shampoo than Nourish, and is reasonably priced per use.

I was excited to find the larger size of this shampoo because it can be hard to find in my area. Some local retailers carry the brand, but not this 50/50 formula, which has been my go-to shampoo for years. I’ve tried just about every salon and department store brand out there, but this is what I’ve been coming back to again and again for the last 10 years because I never have a bad hair day when I use this + the 50/50 conditioner. It’s just the perfect shampoo for my long, fine textured color treated hair, and I like that this gentle formula doesn’t contain any SLS or harsh ingredients. I also rinse my hair once a month with some apple cider vinegar, and that’s literally all I need to do to maintain frizz-free, well conditioned hair— I never have to deep condition or do anything else, even in winter because the combo of this shampoo and the 50/50 conditioner gives my hair the right amount of cleansing and conditioning without ever weighing it down. This large bottle should last me at least 6-8 months, so I’m happy to find the larger size here.

I like it as a clarifying shampoo for my type 4B/4C fine, medium- high density, high porosity natural hair. From time to time I like to use a clarifying shampoo to really get my hair clean and then use a moisturizing shampoo in between clarifying shampoos to make sure my scalp is clean and free of product build up. I use this when I need a fresh start. I never double cleanse because I think it would be too stripping and I follow up with a moisturizing shampoo to restore a bit of moisture before following up with a deep conditioner. As for the hydrating part I do feel like my hair does overall have more water attracted to it (that’s what hydrating is about ) but it’s not moisturizing (there’s a difference between the two) as it did not leave my hair lightly coated or soft. It felt clean and slightly strong. I would not purchase if you’re looking for a gentle cleansing moisturizing shampoo that’s just not what it advertises but I agree it is a good clarifying shampoo. I also just love how natural the ingredients are and haven’t had scalp issues since using it in conjunction with aloe vera spritz on my scalp. For curliest especially or people with dry hair I’d just make sure to follow up with a conditioning treatment that’s really going to bring that softness and moisture to the hair.

Did not know I would receive that size bottle. Thought it would be smaller. This shampoo has very little scent which is why I use it. Will "order up" again.

love this shampoo. i've been using this since dreading my hair about 5 years ago. i tried a couple of others, including this brands 50:50 clarifying shampoo, and i will definitely be sticking with this!i wash with this shampoo two times. the first time i don't get a lather, but i do get a nice lather on the 2nd wash. (why not since i don't need conditioner with this shampoo or with dreads).without all the extra "stuff" in it, my hair also dries about twice as fast as it did before (when i used conditioner, too).watch out when you first start using this, though. the peppermint is strong and overwhelming to the eyes at first, but no too long.

Love this product, normally use Aveda but cant afford and this line is great dupe and cleaner ingredients.
