Habits of Mind Across the Curriculum: Practical and Creative Strategies for Teachers

I had to buy this book for a graduate course. I ended up loving this book and I'm so glad that I had to buy it. My students love learning the habits of mind and I can see a huge impact on their behavior and academics. Nothing is better than hearing a first grader say that they're managing their impulsivity and explain how they can get better. I highly recommend this book to all classroom teachers at any grade level! This is a great addition to your classroom and your classroom management practices.

Habits of Mind have found a home in "the land down under" but not in a country gone overboard on testing and accountability. HOMs are "soft" skills not easily tested; necessary for success, but not easily measured so they are perceived as not as valuable as "knowledge". We were adopting them school-wide and then bailed when some less than favorable test results came to light then the HOMs were dropped. It was a bit like a person with a headache dropping a bottle of aspirin--the help was in hand.So much of what ails our classrooms could be remedied by some good integration of the habits of mind. So much of the reading from gurus like Marzano, Dweck and others say the same things but just in a different manner.I will keep using them in my classroom and this book was the first I read and I continue to use.

I thought this book would be peachy and boring but I believe it merges common sense with new teaching pedagogy.

I wish that I had read this at the beginning of the school year rather than the end. Lots of things to think about!

I've just started reading Habits of Mind after hearing about it through a coaching course that I did. As a primary school teacher I am always on the look for different ways to encourage critical and creative thinking in my students. Habits of Mind has been easy to read and has practical ideas that can be implemented in the classroom.

I was impressed with how quickly it arrived. Lots of great ideas for my teacher friends.

Great book to read, changed my paradigm further toward the conceptual age.Should be read together with the constructive approach toward teaching.
