Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919

Exhaustive? Exhausting?
The story of the Molasses Flood is here... along with a lot of other superfluous information. Yes, it's nice that the author sought to frame the disaster against the events of the era, but expect to read many, many pages of material tangentially related the the flood. Anarchists, labor unions, transcontinental shipping, WW I in Europe, and politics represent the lion's share of the book - out of 238 pages, maybe 75 truly focus on the flood, and even those could be condensed. Every single person involved in the disaster is here, but do we really need to know the minute details of their entire lives? Not really. The last quarter of the book, the legal case regarding the flood, is skimmable at best.

great story and read for new england folks and especially ones of an older generation
ordered book for my dad in maine. very fast delivery to rural coastal town and book was very much enjoyed. good true story that gave perspective on life back then and how important molasses was to Boston , new england distribution, and the commerce involved.

MOLASSES
I loved this book. First that it is a true story, and second because I learned a lot about American History. Who knew Molasses had so many uses? I would recommend this book.
