Updated: Company Responded. (Original: Device Doesn't work)
UPDATED REVIEW 6/10/2023After originally receiving a non-working USB-A to Micro USB 3.0, but not testing it until after the return window, I posted a 1 star review. The company reached out the very next day and offered a full refund. As such, I decided to purchase one of the USB-A to USB-C versions, and it seems to work. The drive at least connected and I could browse files!Time will tell if it lasts. Great customer service though!—-Original review 6/6/2023I purchased this to take an Msata SSD out of a laptop that was being retired, and use it externally. I know the hard drive still works and is readable/writeable. No computer will detect that this is plugged in, much less that there’s an SSD in it. I unfortunately waited too long to test it so I can no longer return it. I’d recommend trying something else.

mSATA TO USB3.1 Blue: TOOL-LESS ???
I'm sorry. This is a petty review, and someone else may have already reported this, but I gotta: Splattered in bold print on the Amazon product page, this item is touted as "tool-less..." And yet it comes bundled with a tiny Phillips screwdriver, and a total of 4 screws need to be addressed to install an mSATA card. Part of the reason I chose this device was for recovering data off of different customer's drives. I already have a tool-less mSATA to SATA 600 enclosure and a drive dock, but I wanted something more portable. Egg on my face, I really should have read the sales page more carefully so I would have noticed the inconsistency. But I didn't, so shame on me. But folks, this isn't too,-less. - ASIDE FROM THAT, this is a decent little ENCLOSURE. Its attractive, and it preforms close to specifications, so if an enclosure is what you want, this isn't a bad choice. Its another clear example of fine Chinese design & manufacturing.

USB 3 fast
Managed to get 450MB/s from even a cheap msata drive. Make sure to use a proper USB 3 cable if not using the included usb cable. If you only get 40-45 MB/s its probably your fault and either need to use a proper usb 3 port or cable. Great product!

No issues; didn't fully test it for transfer speed but able to run Ubuntu from an installed SSD
I bought this because I wanted to see if I had an issue with my SSD drive on one of my laptops or if my laptop stopped reading SSD drives. The box is generic and just has a label added as to the type of case it is. It came with what was described in the description; it comes with a short USB-A to USB-C cable (which also worked with my phone), some extra screws if you have the shorter SSD drive and a mini screwdriver. There are no instructions, but if you absolutely need them there is a snapshot of instructions on Amazon's site with the GREY enclosure. You only have to unscrew the 2 case screws on the side with the USB-C; I did have a very slight issue with opening it at first but it looks like there's a small hole that you can poke a small pin into to pop it open. Or a gentle tug with the USB-C cable plugged in with the screws removed may get it as well.I was able to put in my SSD drive in and was able to boot it via UEFI on another laptop (I had Ubuntu OS already installed on the SSD). It loaded faster than it did on the non-working laptop (to be fair the new laptop I used with the SSD had more RAM and processing speed) Also had purchased another SSD that I plugged into it and it was recognized without any issues on my Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 in addition to my QNAP NAS and an old Dell Desktop with Win 7.Plugged in and idle there is a slight bit of warmth but barely; i haven't really tried to see how fast it will access or transfer data. Just to be as un-scientific as possible I used a no touch thermometer on the case and it went up and down .1- .8 degrees while plugged in and idle with multiple scans.I'm not looking to break any read/write speed records with this; just figured it would be great to salvage a working SSD from a now determined to be non working laptop and keep using it for Ubuntu (web browsing, Steam games, other light stuff) instead of a USB drive on any PC with another OS already installed.I'm definitely keeping the case; I might either return the SSD drive I bought when I thought the old SSD drive stopped working or buy another one of these cases and use that SSD drive for portable storage.

Works well but needs to be cooled if used for extended periods of time
Bought this to recover files from a corrupted laptop mSATA SSD. Didn't come with any instructions, but it was obvious enough to use the included screwdriver to remove the screws and then prod out the board (I just poked the output port). Once the mSATA device is plugged in, it can be anchored with two screws (not included; I used the ones that originally anchored the SSD to the laptop). I didn't see any issues with the construction - the whole thing seemed sturdy, and I didn't encounter any loose or poorly-made parts.I had read the other reviews that this runs hot when used continuously, which makes sense since it's a tiny enclosure without a fan. I simply positioned a small fan to blow onto the exterior of the enclosure, and that kept the temperature between room temp and body temp with nearly 8 hours of continuous use. It did get quite warm without this intervention. I did not notice any issues with heat when the SSD was idle.Overall, it does what it's supposed to do and is aesthetically pleasing as well, but add a cooling mechanism for intensive use. I did not evaluate the transfer speed but it seemed reasonable compared to my other USB 3.0 hard drives.

Works But...
This gadget works. The major issue is the little enclosed screw driver is useless - make sure you have one of your own. And the enclosure does get warm, even with minimal use. How well it works to dissipate the heat from the SSD I do not know. Unless you absolutely need an enclosure, I would just get one of the cards that come naked, without an enclosure. And are cheaper. Still, this one is well made and easy to use.

Recycle mSATA SSDs
This enclosure is good for recycling mSATA SSDs from some notebooks I upgraded. None of the SSDs are for heavy duty use. Some of the more expensive enclosures have big heatsinks for better cooling and I chose one of them for my every day heavy use NVMe SSD.
