Buck Knives 0091BKSTP1Buck CSAR-T Responder Tactical Folding Knife with M.O.L.L.E. Compatible Sheath

My first CSAR-T was the Buck Knives 0095BKSTP TOPS/Buck CSAR-T Tactical Folding Knife with M.O.L.L.E Compatible Sheath as a back up folder for my Columbia River Knife and Tool's 2125KV Ultima 5-Inch Razor Edge Fixed Blade Knife (I have the 7" version)... but because of it's 'tank like' construction, it became so much more. I then bought the Buck Knives 0690BKSTP TOPS / Buck CSAR-T Fixed Blade Tactical Knife to replace my CRKT and couldn't be happier with a knife/tool purchase. One thing led to another and I got the Buck Knives 680 CSAR-T Liaison Tactical Knife with M.O.L.L.E. compatible sheath as a back up neck knife... but yet again, the style and durability of these knives exceeded their planned role they were purchased for. Finally, it suddenly dawned on me.... I'm an EMR and a 1st Responder with CERT, and Buck makes a "rescue" version of this classic knife model.... It was a "no-brainer" if ever there was one. The 'rescue' model is very similar to the 0095 folder, but is slightly slimmer and doesn't feel as heavy... but it's still a very stout knife. Easily depoyable with one hand, the blade "thunks" into place for use. The liner-lock on this model would rival any frame-lock or spine-lock on the market for blade security. 154CM steel was the perfect choice for this tool. Hair shaving sharp outa the box, a simple stropping now and again will keep this edge in service for years I assume. The highly functional strap/belt cutter and the glass breaker tip round out this knifes usefulness. Oh... and I almost forgot, the Buck Knives 0680SSS Hex Tool Set for Tops / Buck Csar-t Knives along with the 1/4" drive socket on every model of the CSAR-T makes this a "one tool" option for any situation. Rarely does a tool come along like this.... This is the kinda knife my Son will get someday when I croak, but not until then... cause they're MINE, all mine. until that day.....

I already own the Buck TOPS Fixed CSAR-T Knife which is an all round great utility knife built tough. The other knives I own make me cringe when I think about ever having to dig in the ground or perform other rough dirty work with them, but this beast with how it is built seems to invite you to use it for the tough, dirty jobs. I wanted a folding blade that would be easier to carry with me all the time. I love the handle on my fixed blade CSAR and found the folder with the same type of handle sans the breakout tool and seatbelt cutter. I placed the order, and soon after found this 7866 CSAR-T Responder Knife. It cost a little more, but the seat belt cutting feature, and window breakout feature seemed like a pair of good extras to have, so I cancelled the other other and ordered the CSAR-T Responder. Amazon makes it so easy to cancel an order which I really appreciate when it is needed. Another site I like makes you go through a lot of rigamarole which ended up making me go though the hassle of having to return the item even though I started trying to cancel moments after placing the order. Kudos to Amazon for making it so easy!My CSAR-T Responder Knife arrived today and it is everything I hoped it would be. I tested the seatbelt cutter which quickly sliced through an old seatbelt. The window breaker looks like it will do the job easily if ever needed. The blade is a beast, just like its fixed brother sans the full tang, but more convenient to carry. This knife came with a Black, heavy duty nylon, M.O.L.L.E. compatible sheath for carry on your belt, or if you prefer it has a sturdy clip for carrying in your pocket without the sheath. If I had to pick just one knife to have with me, this one would be it.

What a strange knife. I am a wildland firefighter, and bought this knife for work after reading about how rugged and durable it is. When I received it, I was disappointed to find that there were a number of things wrong with it. The pivot screw was so loose that the blade exhibited lateral play. One of the handle scale screws was barely stuck in, cross-threaded about a quarter turn, just left hanging there at an awkward angle. Finally, the pocket clip was mounted for left-hand tip-up carry, and attached so tightly that i could not even clip it on my pocket with one hand.Other than that the knife looked great. All the individual components appear well made. The blade is beveled and ground very evenly, and came well sharpened with an excellent heat-treatment. The liners and scales are all cut and deburred with great precision. But when It came to the final assembly, somebody dropped the ball pretty bad. So much for the legendary skill of the American workforce. My Chinese-made Cold-Steel folders are put together better than this.I hate sending things back though, so the knife sat around in the "I'll fix it later" pile until fire season slowed down and I had time to dig up my mini torx set and some hefty pliers. With the proper tools, it was pretty easy to correct the assembly errors. Now I have a good, sturdy rescue knife, after a bit of assembly.With all that done, lets look at the knife as it was meant to be. The blade is an odd shape, but it works well and is easy to sharpen. Not sure of the exact thickness, but it is quite robust--only a tiny bit thinner than the blade of my Cold Steel Recon 1. I like the 154CM steel, and the heat-treatment appears to be well executed. The thumb studs are robust and deployment is easy. The TOPS trademark holes in the top of the blade look kinda cool, and actually help with deployment when wearing bulky leather workgloves. The G10 handle scales are nicely textured for a solid grip, and after some fine-tuning with a pair of channellocks the pocket clip works very well. I find that having the frame screws hidden under the scales is a little disconcerting. I like to be able to see them so that I could easily tighten them up if they were to rattle loose, without having to disassemble the entire knife. However this hasn't been a problem yet, and with Buck's apparent love of Loctite it may never happen. (EDIT: after watching a youtube video of a Russian destroying one of these knives, it appears that the frame is actually held together with rivets rather than screws.) The frame appears to be be held together at the pivot and at the opposite end by the belt cutter/glass breaker. While this seems solid enough, I still would have preferred it if they put a pillar somewhere around the half-way point too, just for good measure. I have not had the opportunity to test the glass breaker or the belt cutter on real seatbelt, but it works very well on 1" tubular climbing webbing provided that you cut at least at a 45 degree or steeper angle.
