Got mold? Want mold? Then look no further.
Ew. That's all that I can say about this. I've throen this out upon seeing what you see in these pictures. I let my electronic toothbrush head dry upright in it first, then turned it over to what I thought was sanitize it. If it's a mold farm, what other bacteria and germs is it not killing?!

Working like a champ
First, let me clarify that this review is NOT about the portable Oral SteriClean Ultraviolet Toothbrush Sanitizer but about the Oral SteriClean Ultraviolet DUO Toothbrush Sanitizer (it now seems to hold 4 brushes) that sits on the counter-top and plugs in. I have edited this review as originally we thought that the sanitizer had stopped working. However, since then, my husband discovered that we had an electrical problem that he fixed, and the sanitizer works great now.We purchased this in Sept. of 2015. It is now Aug. 2018, and the unit continues to work pretty much like a champ.I have noticed that over the past years the light did not come on immediately when putting my toothbrush in and gently tapping it down. However, my husband and I discovered that if we tried to use it too close to its being used, say an hour or two, it would take 30-60 seconds to turn on, and it continues to do so. I will point out that it gets turned on 3-4 times a day.We clean the device on a regular basis, maybe once a month or so, and make sure to clean up any water that may get inside. There is and never has been any mold growing inside as I have read other reviewers state. We also have the portable sanitizers by the same company. They are only a few months old, so we cannot say how long they will last. We keep the batteries out of the holders until we travel. So far so good, but the holders are only five months old, and we have only used them 3 times, but we do like knowing that as we travel our brushes stay clean and sanitized.

I never write reviews, but had to pass this along. At first this product was great. However I noticed that a) if you took the brush out anywhere near the time the UV light had been on, it tasted WEIRD (like to the point of gagging me). But I found if it sat for awhile longer this didn't happen (this only happened because my wife would start it and I would come to bed later on and brush my teeth). And I also noticed the UV bulb would only come on if there was actual light on in the bathroom. I literally did a test where I clicked the sanitizer to turn it on in the dark (nothing happened), didn't do anything other than shine the flashlight from my phone onto it, and voila - it popped on. Again, not the end of the world, but not what I expected. But now it is 6 weeks in since we started using it and it just up and died. New batteries and AC adapter make no difference - bulb won't light. Not sure what happened, but that went quick.

Kind of gross....spit/water seem to slowly side to the bottom, and you can see it stick, stingily to your brush when taken out.
If you share this with someone, the thought and visualization is actually pretty gross. You're supposed to store toothbrush(s) in device, but after you/the other party finished, a mixture of water, and residual saliva fall down into the bottom, and spread evenly over both brushes...And since they're wet with pressure on them all night, the top bristles get bent, and just feed disgusting in your mouth...Great idea, and the technology DOES work, I personally would just suggest another, less saliva collecting, form factor.

Small and portable and has a nice soft blue color
Small and portable and has a nice soft blue color. Unfortunately the lid does not make a good connection with the mechanism that is a safety button for the UV light and putting the tooth brush in doesn't always trigger the UV light. I had to defeat the safety button with a plastic plug to get it work reliably so I will find a better quality option to replace this product with instead. But it's still nice when it works.

This product causes encourages bacterial growth rather than inhibit it. The toothbrush head faces downward in an enclosed area so gunk collects at the bottom and your toothbrush head sits in it. Mildew grows rapidly even with regular cleaning of the product. Due to the crevices in the bottom holder I could not remove all the mildew that was growing in there. It's probably better to get a regular toothbrush holder that keeps your toothbrush upright rather than spend money on this product.

Better than the violight.
I had the violight for years, this is a better product. While I cannot confirm either units sterilizing (or cleaning, I'm pretty sure neither can sterilize) abality the stericlean is easier to operate and much easier to see the brush rest and check for standing water. I also like that the insides are white plastic, the violight brush rest had a reflective coating that seamed to disappear quickly and left the insides looking dingy. The power switch is also much better. The violight you needed to hold with one hand and punch the switch with the other, the stericlean you only need to tap the brush into the base to activate.

Good product, with some notes
You can either plug this in or use batteries. I plug mine in. Sometimes upon putting the toothbrush in, it doesn't click on and I have to unplug and then re-plug it to get it to click on. Also, the directions state that the toothbrush can't be wet when you put it in, so I am forced to only use the product only when my brush is dry. Not sure if that's standard with all toothbrush sanitizers or not, but I didn't know that when I bought it.The cycle lasts about 5-6 minutes and I feel good about using my toothbrush after it's been in the sanitizer.
