The Hero Lens
Update: Book updated with textbook text!“Your hero is the lens through which your reader experiences your novel” and Sacha Black narrows down the lens down into Actions, Thoughts, Dialogue, Feelings that make the hero unique. Most character/protagonist books I have purchased focus on the motivations, which is great but it doesn’t necessarily make your hero stand out.Sascha provides the ingredients to help add depth to characters outside of the standard motivations and traits.I was already a fan of her villain book so this was a natural purchase for me.Previous review:There is a textbook and a workbook version of this book. I preordered both, being a fan of Black's villian books. Both the textbook and the workbook erroneously contain the workbook text. (Jan 3rd, 2019)

Very helpful!
This is a very helpful guide to creating a hero that will be effective, memorable, and relatable. I really enjoyed how creative she was in using well-known books and pulling examples from them. I also feel like I have a better understanding of how to make the book work as a whole, with the hero at the steering wheel. It’s also a fun read, which can’t hurt!

A+
I haven't gotten a chance to written with it yet (I'm reading the non-workbook book first), but I've skimmed through it and I love all of these questions! Perfect for fleshing out your character.

Fantastic guide to creating my protagonist
I don’t know how many emails I sent myself as I read this. A lot. Every chapter made me think, review, improve, and explode with new ideas. Highly recommend! Now I’m off to read her Steps to Evil book.

If you are an author with a hero, read this book.
I read this book because I already ‘met’ Sacha Black in her ’13 Steps to Evil’ text on how to craft a villain. I found that to be a great read, and on the strength of that, I pre-ordered ’10 Steps to Hero’.And I found just what I expected. The book is witty, entertaining and above all, useful.Full of actionable advice and guides on how to make your hero 3D, plausible and someone that your readers care about, nonetheless, it is a darn good read. Sacha is a first-rate storyteller, even when she’s not actually telling a story. It’s not often that a non-fiction title cracks me up, but this one managed it. I’ve read through it once already. I’ll be reading through again to pick up the nuances.A recommended read. If you an author working on your ‘craft’ and you want to fine-tune your heroes, then read this book. You won’t regret it.

Brilliant!
I’m really not one for reading texts for how to improve your writing. It’s not that I don’t think I need them, but I often feel that if someone is telling me how to write, then what I churn out is not really my voice, but that of another…Having said that, I have read a few recently, by trusted authors, some who I feel I know, some whose name I have grown up with… Stephen King, Karen McQuestion, Bryan Cohen, Nicola Morgan, Sacha Black…And they haven’t been telling me what to write, rather how to go about the process, sometimes how they started off, in order to reach the heights they have climbed.Sacha Black is definitely one of those authors.Hers was actually the first ever writing craft book I read actually. When she released her guide to creating villains, I had to get it. Partly because I had been with her step by step, via the blog, as she wrote it, and partly because she always sounds like she knows what she’s talking about! And I wasn’t disappointed! So…Did it help me?I gotta say YES!For the first time, since reading these kinds of books, I was inspired to get a pen and paper, any paper, and jot down ideas to hopefully improve my characters, and their reasoning behind doing some of the things they do in my own book!I’m weaving my own web of connectivity, creating character arcs, looking through my hero lens… (you’ll need to read it to get what all those are!) And all with the help of this rather cool guide that is rather funny too. Sacha is like me, she tends to create her own words, to describe things. She’s not afraid to say it like it is either. And would I recommend it to other aspiring writers?Absolutely!!!I was provided with an electronic copy for an honest review, and I purchased my own copy too.

Perfect Blend of Instruction and Humour
Just like Sacha Black's spectacular 13 Steps to Evil, 10 Steps to Hero is a witty and insightful read for any fiction author. Sacha's blunt humour and seamless blending of real examples and theory make for an easy to digest book that is sure to make your heroes more believable and their arcs more emotive.I highly recommend this book.

Absolutely invaluable!
Absolutely invaluable book for any writer looking to hone his/her craft. I found it really useful. I particularly enjoyed Sacha Black's writing style which is very quick-witted and uses examples from recently-released popular fiction which everyone will know and/or be able to relate to. I highly recommend!

I'm very happy I reached for this book. I've always thought"let's write a book" but I was always stuck in 1\3 of the story, and now I know why!
