Chicago's Historic Pullman District (Images of America: Illinois)

The Pullman district and the Pullman experiment of a company town have always fascinated me. This books gives an excellent photo documentation of the town's architecture and layout. I'm glad I got the book, because I have not seen such documentation anywhere else, not even on the web.What's missing are images of inside the various manufacturing buildings showing the residents/employees working at their craft. There are very few such images compared to the outside shots of buildings. However, the story would have been better told if some real faces were shown.

This is my home town neighborhood in Chicago.

I love books that teach me about eras past and after visiting the Pullman District south of Chicago in person, I wanted to learn more. This book was totally useful. I would recommend getting it BEFORE going on the Pullman tour though, just so you are more versed in the area before you go.

I got this for my mother because she grew up right "next door" in Roseland. She loves it!
