Another fine Seiko product.
The starting point would be to say that this is a good watch at a good price, which is to be expected if you are familiar with the Seiko 5 series, of which this is a member. (Full disclosure: I am an unapologetic Seiko fan.) All the watch functions are good, and the fit and finish are outstanding at this price. Obviously, this is a not-expensive watch, but my magnifying glass examination did not reveal any misalignments, lettering flaws, or detritus under the crystal (my personal pet peeve). The timing bezel moves with a smooth but firm click. Crown functions feel good as well. There are pleasing small details such as when you get to Saturday, and the "SAT" is in a nice light blue color. On thing that frankly surprised me a bit was the quality of the bracelet. I was planning to change to a leather strap immediately, but this bracelet is quite nice. It won't compare to a super expensive watch, of course, but it looks nice and has a nice clasp. This watch has the workhorse 7S36 movement, and mine seems to be running about +7 sec/day, which if you know anything about mechanical watches, is quite good. I've heard from other folks who have had even better performance from this movement. It may be worth noting that some of the Seiko 5's now have the 4R movement, which has hacking and hand-winding. That's a nice addition, but I am not missing it too much with the good accuracy of this one. I was also pleased that the build date of my watch was less than a year ago, which I thought was noteworthy since this model has been out for a few years. Everything I have said so far is what you might call the entry level of expectation for a Seiko 5. Now the good part: this watch is absolutely beautiful. I got this watch mainly because I wanted a blue watch, and my expectations have been met and far surpassed. The finish on the face of the watch is a rich royal blue, with a slight starburst effect in strong light. The bezel is, to my eye, just a bit more of a slate blue, and very attractive. And check the stylish font on those numbers. The face and the bezel both show many different shades of color depending on the light that is striking them at any given moment. The lume on the sword-shaped hands is a nice blue-green, and reasonably bright. The lume for the hours is in a small rectangle at the inside of each hour marker. At first, these marks seem small relative to the hands, but I have grown to like the look. Finally, the crystal is very appealing, with a slight dome, and what you might call a bit of a "shoulder" above the bezel. This has quickly become a favorite watch for me, and I have worn it every day since it arrived. At the risk of using a cliché, this watch looks significantly better than photos convey, although if you do an image search you can find some good pictures to help you get the idea. I recommend it without reservation. On a rating of "coolness per dollar spent," I doubt you could do better. It would be a great graduation present for a high school or college graduate.

I loved it in photos, but it's barely left my wrist in 6 weeks
This is my first dive watch and my second Seiko 5 mechanical watch. Dive watches have never appealed to me, but this one feels different. Mine gains about 5 minutes a month, but I'd much rather have a faster watch than a slower watch. For down-to-the-second accuracy I've got my phone, but I don't need that kind of precision, and a slightly-fast watch goes with my natural sense of punctuality. Every couple weeks when I notice I'm showing up to meetings earlier than I expected, I'll set it back a few minutes.The face is extremely easy to read at a glance, and the bezel is enjoyable to spin with a satisfying click at 30-second intervals. I use it more than I thought I would, mostly for timing walks and other activities. The blue is subtle, especially on the bezel, but the shimmer when the radially-polished face catches light is really stunning, like a sapphire. It's dressy yet utilitarian and inexpensive enough to work with a remarkable range of clothing styles.This is a heavy watch with a lot of presence without being huge. I can't pull off large watches, and this one doesn't wear as large as it seems when you hold it in your hand.I've got about 10 watches, 7 of which are in regular circulation as 'dailies', but I haven't taken this one off for more than a night with only one exception.Some people complain about the bracelet feeling or looking cheap. The individual links are very lightweight if you examine them, but the overall impression of the whole is that they don't feel beneath the watch. The clasp is substantial and secure, the bracelet isn't rattly when I wear it, and the quantity of subtle scratches it is acquiring from daily use is reasonable and pleasing. It's a $160 watch that looks and feels more expensive than that by a lot.

Great watch for a ridiculous value
UPDATE BELOW...I wanted to wait a couple months to see how I liked it after the initial excitement of New Watch Day. It's been about 10 weeks and I've worn it probably 3-4 days a week and love it. As mentioned in other reviews, the internet just doesn't translate the gorgeous color of the dial. It's deep, nearly navy blue that looks incredible in the sun. I own other watches that have SUN in red text on the day display, but none that have SAT in any other color than the weekdays...but this Seiko has a bright royal blue SAT that makes me want to wear it even more on the weekends.I'm not a fan of bracelets, so I switched it out immediately for a blue and gray nato. However, it's kind of a tall watch for it's size (14mm height x 42mm width) and the nato makes it tough to tuck under a shirt cuff. I also snagged a tan leather strap that looks good, though I wish I got something a little darker (More of a medium brown). The bezel is a dark blue and gets a lot of spinning when I'm bored or fidgety.The crown is a little plain, but doesn't stick out too far so it won't bother your hand by poking it. I love display casebacks and sometimes spend a minute starting at the movement before I strap on the watch for the day.All in all, it's an excellent watch and an unreal value at <$150 for an automatic from a brand as dependable as Seiko. Buy it, switch out the strap and you won't regret it.UPDATE October 2016 (18 months of ownership): As you read above, I've loved this watch. But about two months ago, it started running 5-7 minutes fast per day. I tried reaching out to Area Trend to see if I could return it, but they wouldn't respond because they only offer a one year guarantee. So I sent it to Seiko and they quoted me $123 to repair it. At that point, the watch is "totaled" so not sure what I'll do with it now. This stinks. I really loved this watch and it started my watch obsession.

Great Product - Functional and Durable
I recently purchased this watch and it has been operating very well so far. While removing a link, I dropped it from 3 feet to wood floors and it caused no discernible damage and has been running flawlessly. I've swapped out the metal bracelet for a NATO Strap and it has improved the overall look and comfort of the watch. Prior to swapping the bracelet, I noted reviewers on other sites mentioned a squeaking in the bracelet. A easy way to remedy this issue, is to rub dish soap into the bracelet, submerging it in warm water while washing/rubbing the bracelet and then washing the watch/bracelet.Some additional notes:- 42mm and 47mm lug to lug but wears smaller +- Easy to turn bezel +- Fairly weak lume -- Pairs nicely with different straps +- Has operated fine under running water +

Danke nochmals!

Bin immer noch sehr zufrieden mit Optik, Haptik und Qualität.Edit 8.6.2018:Die Seiko 5 Sport hat bis zu einem Sturz aus 1,7m Höhe auf einen Betonboden einwandfrei funktioniert, bei diesem Sturz ist sie genau auf der Ziffernblattseite aufgekommen. Das Glas war unbeschädigt und nicht zerkratzt. Allerdings hat sich der Rahmen der Datumsanzeige gelöst und sie ist stehengeblieben. Habe sie zum Fachhändler gebracht, dieser hat sie zu Seiko Österreich geschickt. Dort wurde Mitgeteilt, dass das Uhrwerk kaputt ging und eine Reparatur rd. €200.- kosten würde. Das übersteigt den Neupreis und ist somit unrentabel. Sehr, sehr schade! Ich habe diese Uhr geliebt. Und wenn sie mal wieder um einen ähnlich günstigen Preis, wie ich sie gekauft habe (rd. €130.-) zu haben ist, kaufe ich mir diese schöne Automatik sicher wieder.Edit 12.06.2018:Ich musste sie mir nicht nochmals kaufen! Amazon hat die defekte Uhr nach einem sehr freundlichen Telefonat mit dem Kundenservice die Uhr zurückgenommen und mir eine neue, gleiche Uhr zugeschickt. Diese Kundenfreundlichkeit ist nicht zu übertreffen! Ich bedanke mich herzlich für diese Kulanz. Die Seiko Vertretung in Österreich hatte mir über mein Fachgeschäft geraten, es mit einem Anruf bei Amazon zu versuchen. Der Umtausch wurde mir sofort angeboten und ich war ehrlich verblüfft wie schnell und einfach das gegangen ist. Danke nochmals!"}],"aggregateRating":{"@type":"AggregateRating","ratingValue":4.375,"bestRating":5,"ratingCount":8}}
