Amazing RPG for Beginners and Seasoned RP'ers alike.
First and foremost I want to say that whatever people have been saying about this game being homophobic or racist, I can tell you that this is untrue and that they are only doing this to give the Author a bad rep, just solely because of this political views and his past. I'm a Muslim and yes I agree there are some controversial things in this game, but it's a Fantasy game, it's not supposed to be 100% real. Much like a video game, it's a simulated past time that doesn't mean much or has very little effect to reality. This was my first RPG game that I ever picked up, not Dungeons and Dragons, or Call of Cthulhu, but MYFAROG. As a seasoned Burzum fan I only found out about MYFAROG last fall and once I bought it for a fraction of what I'd pay for Dungeons and Dragons 5E, I was absolutely shocked and excited. The system is well thought out and alone is a history lesson to Pre-Christian Europe; When Europe was actually Pagan for the most part. From rolling a character to actually playing the game, it all felt like I was this character I built in the world of Thule. Character Generation is extremely easy and has a lot of options of being many of the races in Thule, from Arbi to Thulean Natives, you have Social Classes, Character Roles, if you believe in a Deity or not, and so forth. You have absolute control of your generation, unlike Dungeons and Dragons 5E, where I felt that you didn't have so much. One thing that I love about this game is that it's 100% Modular, meaning you can use very little to no rules or all the rules! D&D 5E felt like a massive ruleshark and found that MYFAROG didn't care too much for it. At the end of it the goal is to use all the rules, but it doesn't exactly have to be like that.Everything you need from being a player to being a Game Master is all in this one book, at least for version 2.6, you don't need many supplements at all to play this game, though I'd advise you do if you want to get the full experience. This isn't D&D where you have to shell out £100 for two rulebooks to be a player AND be a Game Master. From generating characters, to random encounters, everything will be in this one book. The book isn't exactly too thick either so for those who aren't too big fanatics of thick books, you're definitely fine for this. It's softback unlike 1E, but the material and paper type is extremely high quality and durable. One thing I'd like to see changed in this book is putting small rules in more suitable places which are relevant, I've found myself looking at the rules and thinking where are some of them until I realised I overlooked it. It also doesn't hurt to emphasize a little more on some rules like Gear, for example. Another thing I'd like to see is more Supplements for different worlds, at least we have The Coming and this game was mainly focused on Thule, but it'd be nice to see other things we can do this game. For £10 you cannot go wrong at all, like I said, you can just buy this and right out of the box you can start playing, as long as you know core rules like Combat, Skill Checks, then you're absolutely on your way. I cannot recommend this enough to RPG players, and I think it should be law that RPG players own this. You wont break the bank if you buy this and find that you don't like it - this costs less than your average grocery shopping.

A well balanced and rich roleplay system.
Having finally read the book from cover to cover I would have to highly recommend Myfarog to any experienced or new roleplayer alike. The system provides a solid rules system that is easy to accustom oneself to; further, there are many optional rules than can increase immersion into the survival aspect of the game as well as be ignored should you wish to run a swifter form of the game.To give an example of said mechanics there are rules for weapon degradation through continued blocking and general use, as well as random encounter and weather options - Weather may sound a strange mechanic to mention but Myfarog really does present characters in the mortal spectrum unlike D&D for example. Playable characters have as much to fear from exposure, bleeding and infection as they do from enemies and particularly with enemies, characters can be struck down instantly should a well placed hit get through their armour.Myfarog seems to present the realistic side of roleplay well in this regard and players will find that, much like in real life, trying to hunt a bear with bows and spears is an extremely dangerous, if suicidal, task.My only gripe with Myfarog, which i think has been reflected in other reviews. is that the setting of the land of Thule and its peculiarities can narrow the narrative of the game as well as limit player choice if not handled well by the GM. While Vikernes has written and populated an extremely rich Nordic universe with festivals, gods and ever present threats everything is limited to the Thule archipelago - it being the last bastion of mankind that hasn't fallen to Ettin kind.As a GM i would welcome players wanting to play in lands external to Thule as well as be any race they want from any land - reason dictates that there will always be immigration and refugees from fallen lands. Overall though the rules are only limited by how you apply them and a good GM will be able to bring this fantastic system to life through their storytelling so i wouldn't consider the above issues in any way damaging to Myfarog's general quality as a game.Oh and to answer the question that is always levelled at this game...Is it racist?Simple answer: No.Detailed answer: Since the game is based on historic, European, viking-era culture there is certainly prejudice amongst races - the foreign invader are seen as dangerous and untrust-worthy savages without honour (although these people have fallen to the Ettin menace that has ravaged most of the world). Further there is no option to play external regional races (again since they are all now fallen), but Myfarog itself is fiercely focused on the people of Thule (human, God-born and Wood Elves) and how they are scratching out their existence in a land besieged by the monstrous and evil external menace of the Ettin. There is as less racism in Myfarog than there is in Dungeons and Dragons or Games Workshop games. Ie: D&D/GW both have Elves and Dwarves racially discriminating of each other, sects and religions are always at odds, paladins have an unnatural all consuming hate of any evil aligned character and Orcs are typically seen as savages...In any case I would recommend Myfarog to anyone and hope it grows in popularity and that people will not judge the book without actually reading and playing a session first. Ignore the ignorant social justice warriors and give it a go!

An Excellent, deeply rooted 'High Fantasy' based RPG
An Excellent, deeply rooted 'High Fantasy' based RPG. This is my first ever journey into the world of RPG's, and though the learning curve can be a little daunting at first, the game play and RP opportunities are vast and enjoyable and very much worth the effort of learning. Not only this, the game is steeped in Ancient European and Scandinavian Mythology, and is a fantastic way to learn about the deities, runes, beliefs, festivals and 'Ways' of yore. ;)Highly recommended if you are interested in combat realism, it's gritty, dirty, lethal...be careful, or one good hit from your opponent could be your death, no matter how much HP or armour you have; the way it should be!Feel like you would have no-one to play with if you picked up this game? Well, are some excellent groups online where games are played.I suggest searching for them once you've picked up the game.I've thoroughly enjoyed the game, and even picked up many of the bonus supplements to expand the gameplay opportunities, considering the value for money when compared to other RPG's, I couldn't recommend it enough. Hours and Hours of fun to be had. :)

My first foray into tabletop RPGs and I wasn't disappointed. The book is fantastic value for money and although it takes some study at first, the rewards are worth it. All you need is a set of dice and some paper and pens and you are away, adventuring in the land of Thule.
