Breaking them in is tough but worth it
These sandals hurt my feet so bad at first. My feet would be aching to the point where I’d have foot cramps as soon as I took them off and I would have to sit down.However.... now that they are broken in... I love them! The sole contoured to the shape of my foot. The straps are adjustable. If you are accustomed to wearing cheapo flip flops/sandals from Target/Walmart, you will have an adjustment period. But all in all, I feel safer wearing these sturdy sandals.I got them muddy by accident, so I let them soak in a bucket of warm water and they cleaned up just like new. They seem to be well made.

Careful of who you purchase from.
Received a right and left that were totally different fits and comforts. Not pleased. See photo for details.

Beware of knock offs
UPDATE:It appears that these are the same style of Birkenstocks that are sold at Zappo's(black writing on sole), and I can't imagine they would be selling knock offs. I do not understand why these would be lesser quality than the ones bought on Birkenstock's actual website, but that may be the case.I believe these are counterfeit, sold by “shoe brands USA.” Especially given the name of the store, I expected these to be shipped from U.S. but they were shipped (quickly) from the UK.(Birkenstock’s website says shoes shipped into US from other countries means fake.)1) Something seemed off and I realized that the stock photos show yellow writing on the sole and these have black. That was the first red flag.2) They also do not have a number imbedded on the inside of the end of the strap.3) Some of the glue is visible where the upper connects to the base which is uncharacteristic of Birkenstock craftsmanship.4) There is a small dented scuff in the inner heel (pictured) which also seems off.5) And then after reading another review here of the same shoes from the same seller, I realized the outer strap is also already coming away from the shoe bed on their shoes. If these are truly counterfeit as I suspect, they are unbelievably close to the real thing. I almost can’t believe it. The box and packaging are a perfect match. They are high quality leather and smell like rich leather. The shape of the shoe and the design on the bottom is perfect. None of the flaws would bother me except that they signify counterfeit which means they won’t carry the longevity and quality of the real thing that I paid good money for. I bought these discounted from $125 to $99 but obviously if they are fake and won’t last nearly as long then it was not worth the small discount. I will be buying only from the official Birkenstock website. Buyer beware.

Perfect!
Love them! Don’t pay attention to bad reviews. I have a very narrow foot and ordered a 38N. They fit perfect. These are the real deal. Delivered in the box just as if I had bought them in a local store. If you have never owned a pair of Birkenstocks they will hurt your feet a tad until you break them in.

Maybe not made for the flat-footed...
After reading all the rave reviews on Birkenstocks and what they can do for your foot health, I decided to give them a try. I have flat feet and a history of plantar fasciitis. Wearing them out of box, it felt like I was wearing 2 wooden planks with what feels like a mountain for "arch support." 5 minutes in and my feet were KILLING me. I tried all the "break-in" methods online to no avail. After wearing for 2 days straight they didn't get any better... and I started limping to walk. Just standing in them became unbearably painful. I'm returning these. I'm not sure if I am supposed to "brave it out" longer or if these just aren't made for the flat-footed. Either way, a sandal that has now made it painful to walk in anything isn't something I can afford as I am constantly on my feet.TL;DR extremely, unbearably uncomfortable. Maybe not suited for flat-footed people. YMMV

The size chart is not correct
The size chart is not correct. I wear a size 6 in almost all shoes, but a 6.5 in running shoes. The size chart for this pair of Birkenstocks and others I was looking at prior to ordering recommended I order a 37 if I wear a US size 6. I knew this wasn't right, since I have many pairs of European shoes and they're always a 36. I ordered the 36 and they're still too roomy. I'm keeping them because online exchanges are such a hassle, but the 35 would have been better. They really need to get their size info fixed. It's disappointing to spend nearly $100 on a pair of shoes and not be completely satisfied with them. The reason for the good star rating despite this is because the sizing issues have nothing to do with the overall quality of the shoes.

Shoe tore within days
I immediately loved these sandals as soon as I started wearing them- comfortable, stylish, etc. I took them with on a vacation to Michigan and within a couple days of wearing them a tear developed where the strap connects to the shoe. Very disappointed. These shoes should not tear that quickly with gentle wear.

Best Fit Everytime!
I have been wearing Birks for years and years, despite their notorious high prices, because they fit better and feel more comfortable than any warm season shoes I've ever worn; for the last three pairs of Birks I bought off Amazon, each time saving better than 40% from brick-and-mortar shoe stores, the fit has been EXACTLY as expected and I've NEVER been disappointed. Try them, you'll like them!

Dangerous
I recently researched the best footwear for the foot issue metatarsalgia, which I suffer with. Birkenstock’s are supposed to help people who have this condition, as well as other foot problems. But I have an issue. I ordered my size, which came no problem. But it’s like trying to walk around the house with a canoe strapped to each foot! They’re massive!!! In fact, they are that big, you could strap one shoe to each end of a pole and go sailing in a real canoe!Don’t get me wrong, these are fairly well made, and if they were fitted properly they might have been good for my feet. But only if the buckles were fitted properly! When I first put them on, I was cut by a sharp piece of metal sticking through the strap from the buckle!!So, if you order a completely different size to yours (just guess, as it will be closer than your actual size) and you get lucky and they fit properly, and if they don’t shred a layer of skin from the top of your foot, these might be a decent buy. But these have already made my feet worse.

After taking receipt, two days after purchase, she's absolutely ecstatic (women and shoes)!!
These were purchased for my wife, as she owned a pair of 'Birkenstock Madrid style' sandals a couple of years ago and loved how comfortable they felt upon her feet, compared to leather toe post sandals or flip flops, as she's never been a fan of feeling the post between her toes.Having suddenly remembered just how kind they were to her feet, recalling how her feet lived in them pretty much 24/7, both indoors and out during summer months, she asked for another similar pair to be ordered but insisted that the white leather strap had to be white.Upon reading the reviews of cheaper alternatives, in addition to observing customer images that showed how some of those cheaper options had apart soon after purchase, I opted for the probably the best single strap sandal that money can buy. After taking receipt, two days after purchase, she's absolutely ecstatic (women and shoes). Possessing a high instep and fairly broad forefoot, she often struggles to find footwear that accommodate her feet without rubbing and pinching. As such, I ordered a pair of Madrids in a size 9, to ensure that her feet had plenty of room for manoeuvre inside the lipped foot bed. Although an EU 42 (UK size 8) was received, upon sliding her feet into them, she was relieved to find the her feet sat comfortably inside the lip running all the way around, with a little room to spare. Most importantly, more than enough space (5mm) exists between the tips of her big toes and the lip of the foot bed at the front, with a little more room to spare between the back of her heels and lip at the rear. The prominence of the contoured foot bed, particularly in the arch, simply adds to the level of comfort felt when they're worn (her words, not mine).

Schade....

These are really nice, but, this is the 3rd pair I've had where the glue has failed
I have always liked these sandles; the ergonomic footbed feels weird at first, but rapidly just feels right, so I wear them around the house and garden. Sadly, I can't say I'll buy any again because, the glue fails. It's a shame because they're useless when the straps pull out from between the sole and foot bed, and the sole delaminates from the footbed at the front 1/2 too.I tried re-gluing these with gorilla glue (foaming polyurathane glue). It worked, but I wouldn't recommend it as the foam did expand to fill the gaps, but then pushed the pieces apart a little (soon crushed down again, but it was uncomfortable for a few hours). Anyhow, the re-gluing has steadily failed again. When it goes completely, they'll go in the bin.Sad to see the quality from this company has dropped in such an avoidable way. I'd have happily paid an extra £0.50p for the privelege of a pair that actually stayed together, but it happens with trainers too, so perhaps there's an industry problem with the glue they now use.

Fabulous, functional and feel amazing on
Love Birkenstock Arizona’s, so comfy, and look amazing with anything, the last year or so I’ve been suffering with plantar fasciitis and summer sandals are a big no no pain wise, my feet have never been happier since getting Birkenstock’s, they are amazing, I’m now the proud owner of 12 pairs... and counting 🤣
