Don’t listen to any reviews that say this measuring tape is off by 2”. Anyone saying that does not know how to use it. This is a measuring tape for SELF-measuring your own body. The end of the tape that you pull out is a cylinder & there is a little round hole that is opposite of where the measuring tape comes out at. You pull out & wrap the tape around you like you would any other, then slide the cylinder end of the tape down into the little round hole that it’s made for. Then press the little button in top which makes the tape pull back in until it is around you - then it locks in place. Then slide the little cylinder back out & since the tape is still locked into place, you can read the measurement accurately. The nearly 2” that the tape starts out with accounts for the width of the actual tool between the cylinder end coming out one side & the little round hole that it slides down into (after it’s around you) on the other. This way you don’t have to try to stand straight & get & keep the tape accurately in place while you look down & try to accurately read the measurement without moving it.

I bought this, and it lasted 4 years with regular use at least once a week, until the tape broke at the knob that connects to the base. I have since tried 2 other, cheaper brands on Amazon, both of which broke within a year at the same use. Get this brand--it's worth the money. The tape material is just better for regular use.

This makes waist measurement easy. I like the design, It gives an accurate measurement. If I use it once a week and it lasts for 2 years, it's money well spent. I'm tempted to go ahead now and order another one.

My teacher had a standard tape measure and it always grossed me out when it would hit the floor between body measure & then she'd put it in her mouth to hold... I bought this and it's AWESOME! I've used it for many months to do body measurements on many boot campers and it's great... anyone with issues is not using it correctly. It's easy to pull out, fits even very large chests and is quick and easy to retract. The only thing I'd suggest is make sure you control it or have fingers out of the way because it comes back like a tool tape measure! :)As to those who have particular complaints, let me detail:Some complain that the tape doesn't start at zero...That's to compensate for the part of the frame that goes against the body, which is roughly 2"Some have compalined that the tape isn't attached fully to the pin and ultimately separates...That's apparently a rare defect and there is NO product out there that has 100% accuracy in manufacturing. Look when you get yours - if you notice anything like that, exchange it.Some complain that the pin doesn't fit snugly into the slot and, therefore, constantly pops out...Two things here... it shouldn't fit "snugly" or it would negate the quick release... if it REALLY bothers you, put a piece or two of Scotch tape around the head and it will fit more snugly. I wouldn't recommend it, though, again because of the quick release nature. Secondly, if the head is popping out, it's because you don't have it flush/straight and won't get an accurate measurement anyway.Some complain about clicking or non-clicking and the ratcheting of the tape itself. It's supposed to do that. It's a "RETRACTABLE" tape measure... so it will come out to the point you need, you put the pin in, press the button to retract while the pin is in the hole, record your measurement, take it off, and then press the button to retract the tape. Easy peasy.HUGE PLUS: The tape, when pinned around a body part being measured, once you press the button to "tighten", will stay put and just hang there until you take the pin out. Handy if you're measuring yourself and need to record and are forgetful like me!I have used this tape for body measurements on roughly 10-15 boot campers twice every 6 weeks since August 2012. I have gotten accurate measurements and had no problems with the pin coming off, the pin popping out except when I had it wompy-jawed and it popped out because it was uneven, or any other issues... it works just as it should if you read the directions and use it accordingly.
