Great hands on with examples of practical applications. Great resource!

Great content both in the fundamentals and the hands-on exercises. The concepts read easily for a teenager or adult and are easy to understand without seeming 'dumbed down'. Particularly impressed by the analogies and colored illustration. The kids can now discuss genetic engineering at the dinner table. We completed the first experiments as a family and were surprised about the DNA in the strawbery. As parents, we appreciated the emphasis on safety and responsibility, along with the Genetic Engineer's pledge.

I read somewhere that making synthetic insulin is as easy as making Tylenol (not that I am an expert in making Tylenol, either), so I became curious. After working my way through this, I now understand how synthetic human insulin is made. No, I am not looking to make any insulin (or any Tylenol). I just wanted to know how it is done.

There is nothing in the blurb about the book on amazon UK to suggest that in order to make use of this book you also need to buy an accompanying biology kit that costs 299 euros. Without it, my daughter can do the first experiment only. She is hugely disappointed as she wanted to use it to base her research for school for a project around. I never usually spend this much money on a book I have not seen and will not be doing so again. Feeling very let down.

Un excellent livre!Il faut savoir que ce livre est le support de laboratoire d’un incubateur commercial. Il faut cet incubateur pour réaliser les expériences.Ce qui vaut la peine ce sont toutes les explications sur le fonctionnement des cellules, des bactéries, de l’ADN, des acides aminés etc. Une jolie mine d’information bien rassemblées, présentées clairement et en liaison avec les expériences de laboratoire proposées.Comme je n’ai pas le temps de retourner à la fac pour apprendre, je trouve que ce genre d’explication est très utile. A partir de la, on possède suffisamment de bases pour se documenter sur internet.Le niveau est accessible si vous avez une base scientifique; au minimum de très bons souvenirs de chimie niveau secondaire.
