great variety of hand-drawn designs
This is a great coloring book. As other's have noted, this book contains all hand-drawn designs- everything from nature scenes to mandalas to geometric designs to still lives. The designs are intricate enough to take a decent amount of time to color, but not so detailed that you can't shade different areas for contrast or add some extra doodling, if you like. There are two issues with this book- the first is that several of the images were scanned in such a way that the image is blurry on the page- it looks like a sketchbook was pressed into the scanner, but not flat against the glass. It doesn't bother me because when you color in the designs, that little bit of blur/shadow gets covered up, but it was a little weird to see in a professionally printed and published book. The second issue is that there are a few "cutesy" designs in here- big eyed owls and kitty cats and butterflies with anatomical features, etc. I tend to like the straight geometric/mandala patterns, so that's not my cup of tea- I just passed those pages on to my ten year old daughter. I think about half the book consists of amazing designs that I am really excited to color, and for a book this size with a variety of subjects, that feels like a good ratio. There's a variety of different designs in here, but I do hope the artist would consider doing an entire book of mandalas, since I liked those the best. All in all, this is a great book for those interested in coloring- detailed enough to take more than just a few minutes, but not so detailed and fussy that it will stress you out.

Very Relaxing
I absolutely love this book. I received this for Christmas last year. The book has a nice thick cover which makes it seem like a beautiful keepsake when you're done. It does have some blank pages but if you read the intro in the front it explains that it's for your own drawings if you want. There are not many blank pages. I love the fact that the drawings are circular or square where you have some white space around it. I'm not a huge fan of pictures going from end to end. Having white space around it makes the book feel neat and clean to me. They do not have pictures on the front and back side of the pages. Just the front. For coloring, I use the Bic Mark-It Color Collection Permanent Markers, Ultra Fine Point, Assorted, 12 Markers (except I got mine at Target and it had 14 markers) and they work well. I am very pleased with how they look in my book. When you're coloring with markers, it would be good to have another piece of paper behind it so that it won't bleed onto the other picture. I accidentally did that with one and had to be creative with my picture to "hide" the spots that bled through. These do relax me. As a mother of three young children I tend to have trouble getting myself sleepy at night because I have a ton of stuff running through my head for the next day. Not sure why I didn't start coloring years ago. These relax me enough to be able to get to sleep easily. It's engaging and boring- if that makes sense. It's boring but not enough where you want to stop. So again, I love this book!!!!

A wonderful and unique way to bring art and Zen together to calm your inner soul.
I have had a passion for the martial arts and cultural arts all of my life. I recently purchased this interesting color workout (Color me calm: 100 coloring templates for meditation and relaxation by Lacy Mucklow and illustrated by Angela Porter) for a bargain price on Amazon.Though I have been into Zen poetry and other creative activities, this is the first Zen coloring book I have ever purchased. There are many things I really love about this adult coloring book. The introduction gives a brief overview of the beauty of art and color as it relates to meditation and calmness. This fascinating book is organized into six chapters covering the following color templates: The first chapter covers the role mandalas plays in achieving a calm mind. I am familiar with a similar “circle” art in the Japanese “Enso” which are pure circles done with a brush. Chapter two shows various water scenes which are known to produce a relaxing affect. Wooden scenes are the focus of chapter three. Chapter 4 explains and shows geometric patterns. Chapter 5 is about floral and fauna templates and the final chapter natural patterns are covered.I am really enjoying this inspiring and artistic adult coloring book and recommend it for anyone seeking a relaxing and meditative hobby along with actual Zen meditation.Rating: 5 Stars. A MUST BUY Coloring Book!! Totally worth the price and filled with beautiful designs!
I absolutely LOVE this coloring book! I was hesitant at first to purchase it because there are so many books for less than $7 or so bucks and this one was a bit more than that - however, when getting it, I realize WHY it was more expensive and it's SO worth it! There are 100 designs in this book and they're all beautifully done!! There's a ton of variety! The only thing I will say is that the pages are not perforated so if you wanted to tear them out, you will have to be careful so as not to rip the page. With that being said, the book is super flexible so there really is no need to tear them out unless you want to give one to someone else to color or you wanted to frame it or display it in some way. This is definitely the coloring book I've used the most (and I color tons!) and I plan to buy more of the "Color Me" series books as a result of the high quality of this one! There are also blank pages at the end of each section which are intended for you to draw your own design - but I use them for coloring testing pens and it works out beautifully!! (I was never one for drawing my own designs!) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book!!

It came pre-colored
Very disappointed. I've been waiting for a week for this book and someone has already colored a lot of pages. There are more than what I posted in this review.I will be sending it back; I hope I can get a fresh new one because I really love the page designs.

Good
Nice variety of designs to choose from and the paper is thick enough that even if you're using a texta, it doesn't go through.
