A Mutual-Aid Model for Social Work with Groups

Would recommend for beginners interested in group work
This is a very readable text and contained great information for me as a social work student with minimal group experience. It is well written and contains great information from a solid and strengths based model. I have since been facilitating groups and I found the mutual-aid model the most helpful in turning theory to practice. It is not completely all encompassing for information you need to know about group work, but I don't know of any readable book which is.

Conceptually Vague, and Adventurous
The narrowly-defined scope of "Mutual-Aid Model" isn't always held to in this book. Many of the concepts and tools apply to support groups writ large. But, for a textbook? It's pretty handy.

Trying to be fair
tto be fair, groups is a live entity. It has a soul that is open to change and move at will. That is difficult To capture in any book. I'd recommend highlighted terms and definitions, maybe charts and visuals so that I can comprehend and so that things can stick to this very overwhelmed brain. For it to be such a highly used and recommended book, I have to trust the experts know best and muddle along, highlight like crazy and take notes. Having finished it, I can say it is the definitive resource on the topic. Hang in there reading it.
