The Art of Public Speaking, 11th Edition

I used this as a resource for my public speaking course at the high school I teach at. It was worth it just for the outline of the phony pharmaceuticals speech and video toward the end of the book in the Persuasive Speech chapter.

Great Buy

I purchased this book for an undergraduate class on public speaking. I do a lot of public speaking and still found this book to be both interesting and helpful in that it provided some interesting points even for accomplished public speakers. I especially enjoyed the historical background on both the classic and modern approaches to public speaking. I also found the topics on specific methodologies for persuasive speaking to be thought provoking.On the downside, the book isn’t inexpensive; but most university text books aren’t.IMPORTANT NOTE:I decided to get the Kindle addition so I could search the book, book mark topics of importance and make electronic notes. One warning, if you need access to the website that has the associated video materials available with the hardbound copy the code to access these do NOT come with the kindle version! Luckily, my university had its own access to these materials for me.

I had to write this review. I am so pleased with both the book and the seller. I needed this book asap and asked the seller to contact me as to whether or not he could deliver on time: I actually received a call from the seller! He shipped the text on the same day for me. I got it in time! The text itself is a "God-send" as it is clear and concise. I am happy with my purchase.

This is the best thing since sliced bread! I look for all E-books now because I don't need to buy book shelves to store them. They're much lighter and convenient than a hard back. For the price that I spent on buying a textbook I could rent 4-5 e-books.The only trouble I'm having is learning how to get to the table of contents and to the page I need. Sometimes I nail it but other times it's quite challenging. That is the least of my worries, this rental has saved me quite a bit money and it's easier to carry in my school bag.Thanks

The author does a great job of explaining things in a way that is easily readable and applicable. I do wish that the value of the book matched the content quality. At the price of $103.24 at the time of this review, the book is way overpriced. The book is 300 pages, but this is only because of 3 inch margins and many unnecessary pictures (see product pictures). In actuality, the content is about 150 pages. In summation, the quality is good, however the price truly diminishes the merit of the book. If, like me, you are required to purchase this, you may be better off buying it used or renting it. The book is a quick read, so you may consider purchasing it/renting it with a classmate so that the price is truly worth it. You will be able to share it and each read the whole thing in just a few days.

I'm not going to lie, this was my favorite textbook I have ever ordered! The author added SO much humor! It is not at all written like a textbook, and if you are looking to learn how to properly speak in public, this is a GREAT resource. I was entertained the entire semester reading this book! I even looked forward to reading it, and I HATE reading!

I'm sick of paying for books that cost so much and can't even resell down the road so I decided to purchase the digital version and it works as well as the paper or hard cover. You can even print copies, make notes, and outline; no more paper or hard cover textbooks for me I'm going to save a ton getting my books in digital format. My college bookstore sales representative was very depressed to hear that I would no longer spend four hundred dollars every semester worth every penny!
