SGT118 Smart Badge CAC ID Holder & USB Smart Card Reader

My original Stanley Global USB CAC reader was a model number 118-4 and looked exactly like the pic shown for this item.Amazon even told me I ordered this item before, so I figured I would receive the exact same one I got from them before.WRONG!!!!!!!!!The one they shipped me for this item was a model number 118-5. It weighs about two to three times what my original 118-4 model weighs. It also is NOT thge same as shown in the pic -- this new one completely covers up the bottom half of your CAC (ID card) and it also does not have any status lights on the front to indicate whether your CAC is readable. And it weighs a ton!!! I have no intention of wearing this thing around my neck 8+ hours a day...In short, this new 118-5 model is a complete piece of junk and I WILL be getting a refund from amazon for this stupid thing.

I purchased this in August of 2012. It worked for light duty for 18 months, and then the USB wire broke. I've just ordered the SGT119X as a replacement. Hopefully the retractable cable will solve that particular problem.Functionally it was excellent, enabling my cac to work on my mac running 10.7 and 10.8

I tried this on a Win XP and Win 8 laptop and didn't have any luck. The Government websites I tried to use with it wouldn't detect it. The one Win 7 laptop I used it on picked it up and the websites worked.

Update 10/25/2011: I was contacted by Super Deals and they ensured I received the correct product. Also, it appears the stock has been corrected as there is another positive verified purchase review which indicates the correct product has been received.Now that I have the reader, I can actually review the product itself. The overall quality is excellent. Strong lanyard cord attached to luggage clip which attaches to Smart Card Reader. When using the card reader, it automatically finds the drivers needed to operate. USB connector is tucked neatly in a form fitting niche and is out of the way when not in use making the card reader looks like a standard badge holder. Red and Blue indicator lights let you know it is working - Blue indicates Smart card reader is functioning and Red indicates Smart Card is inserted.Previous Review:I left a negative review in the seller feedback around July 1 which was removed for an unknown reason. I see others are experiencing the same issue so I feel compelled to leave feedback here now. I ordered an SGT118 but instead received an SGT111 stored inside a bag with an SGT118 label/barcode on it. I called Amazon and was promptly sent the wrong item inside a mislabeled bag once again. Was this an Intentional Bait/Switch by whoever bagged the product? I do not recommend buying this product until someone reviews the stock.

Interesting product. Appears to work, but the lanyard is too short to be useful. Because of the way it mounts, it would not be easy to use a different lanyard (and you shouldn't have to).

I had to get a replacement after 9 months. But the second one has lasted over 4 years.

Great idea, but the software disk provided does not fit into my computer. I need to research the seller website to see if downloaded software is available and if not, I need to return the item.

Great product to use in order to test and develop you own quick prototypes and to test some ideas. Very Good!
