Yummy Cobbler and description
I have already made Buffalo Patrol Cobbler on page 251. It was wonderful!! If the only cobblers you have made are using a cake mix you are in for a treat. It will not look the same as a cobbler made with a cake mix. This cobbler uses corn muffin mixes. It definitely adds texture and a different flavor. It is delicious!! The recipes are categorized by breakfast, lunch, dinner, breads, snacks and desserts, and drinks. within the category they will have the method used grouped together. For instance all the dinner dutch oven recipes are grouped together. Each recipe has the servings and challenge level under the title. Then the story. Although not every recipe has that. It will give any home prep first. then the in camp prep. After that the required equipment is listed. then any tips these can be very helpful. At the side of the page is the ingredient list and any options. The introduction and the appendixes A-E are very helpful for the beginner and a good refresher for the more experienced. this is a great book. I can't wait to make another recipe. I got this for my personal use as well as for use by my AHG Troop. If you are also thinking about getting the Scout Dutch Oven Cookbook There are no repeat recipes that I can see.

Exactly what I was looking for
After doing lots and lots of looking through camping cookbooks and reviews here on Amazon.com, I settled on purchasing The Scout's Outdoor Cookbook and The Well-Fed Backpacker. I was so pleased when the books arrived as they were EXACTLY what I was looking for to assist me in planning a 2 week car camping trip.Easy, filling and delicious meals that can be cooked in a dutch oven. I didn't want to spend time before the trip dehydrating food which is what most of the other books are about, nor do I need to cook gourmet food out in the wilderness (the other type of book I found). This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it to car and tent campers wanting to eat well!

Wanted more dutch oven recipes
As a guide for scouting leaders and scouts themselves looking to improve every aspect fo their wilderness cooking this is five star all the way. I was looking for more dutch oven cooking. Some of the recipies are very good and I have enjoyed cooking several of them, many are a little too much of the open the can dump it in and warm it up variety. There are some gems, and every style is examined, I often use tin foil pouch method to cook vegetables on my grill. Yet another good source for outdoor cooking recipies and techniques.

This cookbook has something for everyone!
I really do believe that this is the ultimate camping cookbook. I ordered 4 different camping cookbooks from Amazon. And gave each 5 stars for different reasons. This one has something for everyone, from beginners to pro's. Really enjoyed sitting down today and reading the recipes and the info included about the camps, and how the recipe got it's name. I also got a good chuckle over the names of some of the recipes. I am only cooking for one, but the recipes for larger meals still gives me good ideas, just have to do a bit more planning with the volume/amounts of ingredients. The book is arranged by breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts and drinks. Each recipe is rated on the difficulty of preparation. Equipment needed is listed. Well thought out. The authors put a lot of time and care into this book. Thank you.

Excellent Cookbook, and great for scouts
I got the book for myself. Hadn't even opened it, when my son says, "Dad, we need to get a present for XXXXX, because I need to be at his birthday party in half an hour". XXXXX is a scout....... So, he got a copy of this book for his birthday. Sigh. So, now I don't have a copy of the book that I'd been wanting for a while. Guess what I find, freshly included on the shelf of the Santa Rosa Scout Shop? Yes, now they carry the book, too! And one of my friends came over last night, saw it, picked it up, read part, and asked to borrow it..... I have YET to have a copy of this book in my hands long enough to actually USE it. And it's worth the price, even if only for the Rice Pudding recipe......

great cookbook
This is a great cookbook for outdoor cooking. I mainly bought it for Dutch oven cooking. I admit I was a little worried about how some of these recipes would turn out but I followed the instructions and have had great results. My favorite recipe is the Wood Badge Jambalaya. I was worried it wasn't cooking properly after checking on it several times. However to my satisfaction it turned out perfect in just the amount of time they said it would. The temperatures they use via the charcoal comes straight out of the Lodge Logic user guide. I look forward to trying out new recipes. If you're into cast iron Dutch oven cooking then this is a good addition to add to your other cookbooks. You can never have too many options.

Dutch Oven Cooking At Its Best
I've owned a dutch cooker for donkey's years but have never been able to get the best out of it. I've used it on the stove or in the oven like a regular casserole but have always been curious about the apparent art of using it on the campfire. This book contains loads of original recipes with instructions on how to make them over the fire using a dutch oven, it's the best thing ever!It also has recipes for mud pie which is rapidly becoming a favourite with the cubs and the scouts, bread, pie and all sorts of other delicious fantasy foods including ice-cream. Some of the recipes call for American ingredients, but I'm sure they can be improvised to suit local cuisine...

It is a good practical cook book. I really liked it and actually tried a couple of recipes in camping environment. It is not perfect, I guess, nothing is, but to me it deserves 5 stars.

A great book to have
This is a great book to have, plenty of great ideas for good food at camp. Recipes are in American measurements and some of the ingrediants are difficult to work out the UK equivalent. Kids were able to follow many of the recipes after I adapted them and spent ages trying to work out measurements. Made for some intresting meals. Really could do with a chapter on conversions and what a some food items are in the UK. Graham crackers we don't have a version, ended up using Digestive biscuits for sweet recipies or water crackers for savoury. Not sure if these made any difference, but the food got eaten all the same.
