Fixes leaking pans that were repaired with time-sert
EDIT After using this for the full cycle, it did start to leak again, but only small tiny drips when the engine was fully heated. However it was enough to require me to add more oil. Due to this I've dropped this down to 3 stars; I'm now trying the other universal bagged oil drain plug by American Grease stick, it has the big exterior gasket and the weird flat head that required tightening with a wrench; that seems to be completely leak free.-----------------------I installed this on my 2009 Audi TTS. Someone had installed a time-sert but did a poor job on the installation, and it was leaking out the drain plug still. The area around the drain plug was not flat at all and the insert looked slightly crooked. After doing some research, I decided to give this plug a go. I spent about 2 hours cleaning up the pan with a hand file and some 80 grit sandpaper to get the area flat again. I then used this plug and a neoprene (basically rubber) washer from my local hardware store that fit the plug as a secondary seal. After installing this and refilling with oil, I have no more leaks. It's been 3 weeks and still all is clean under the car. Can't beat that as this unit for $12 plus 75 cents for 3 of the rubber washers beats a $700 dollar pan installation or the full day or two it would have taken me to do the job.Note that I didn't test this without the neoprene secondary washer but suspect it would work just as well; I just knew that personally I'd rather have two seals as I would hate to get this installed only to have to drain and re-do an oil change 2 times in a row.I highly recommend getting one of these if you are going to repair a cross-threaded pan, or if it had already been repaired but is still leaking.(Please do not just stick this in a cross-threaded hole though, you will need to either install a time-sert or bore the hole out larger, tap for a bigger size and then get the correct SMART-O that fits your new hole).

Saw on a you tube vid on this exact same drain plug
This was installed on a 2014 Jetta that had some degree of stripped oil pan thread. This drain plug although pricey for a drain plug saved me a few hundred dollars by avoiding getting a new oil pan. I ordered a second one for next time as a backup. ZERO leaks and threaded In nicely. Ran car for half an hour rechecked and no leaks!

It works...no more leak....
So I changed the oil in my 2016 VW passat and just reused the same plug....but by the next day it leaked out 1.5 quarts before I realized what was happening. Lucky for me I had already ordered this plug for my 2008 VW Passat. It worked pefectly and there are no more leaks. I see some negative review's that it only last one oil change. That's good to know but I still like it. I should not need to change my oil for...in theory 10,000 miles so if I need a new plug then it's fine with me.

Fixed my drain plug drip
Awesome. I had a slow drip from my drain plug after VW did my oil change. Bought 2 drain plugs from O'Reilly and had the same problem. Ordered this drain plug and it fixed my problem. Worth the money. Pretty sure VW stripped out some threads on my drain pan. Without this Smart-O drain plug, I probably would have had to replace my oil pan. Try thos before replacing your drain pan. Always start with the cheapest, most simplest souloution first and work your way up.

Creates oil leak
So I'm kind of irritated about this and I hope you guys send me a new one Because I changed my oil after only 3000 miles and when I put the plug back in it's now dripping because of the rubber ring completely perished in a very short space of time

I used this after needing to tap an oil pan ...
I used this after needing to tap an oil pan out from 12mm to 14mm, after the 12mm threads broke. It may have been due to the sharpness of the freshly-cut threads, but the rubber grommet in the middle of the plug was immediately ripped out as I was putting it in. It still holds (without leaking) thanks to the washer and the remaining threads closer to the head, but it was definitely a cause for concern...and performance/functionality is now theoretically degraded compared to if the grommet was never there and it had threads for the entire length. Maybe they should use a tougher rubber that's less prone to breaking?
