The FeverWatch non-contact digital infrared thermometer provides a simple, fast, and accurate way for initial temperature or fever readings by taking the surface temperature of areas on the face such as the forehead or tear ducts. It obtains the body temperature reading within 0.3 degrees of accuracy in less than 1 second through a single click. This infrared thermometer features an intuitive guidance system to secure positioning to ensure accurate readings. Temperatures (Fahrenheit or Celsius) are displayed on a large LCD screen (with a backlight included) for easier reading even in total darkness. An adjustable audio alarm will alert you if the temperature is too high, and includes a mute feature that is suitable when discretion is needed, e.g. undisturbed patients or when the device is used primarily for children or as a baby thermometer. Due to the Feverwatch being a non-contact thermometer, there is no contamination risk and is able to scan multiple individuals without having to disinfect the device. FeverWatch was designed specifically for forehead temperature detection from a 1"-4" (5-15cm) distance with an 89-109 F(32.0-43.0C) temperature range. Unlike other IR thermometers that only measure surface temperature, FeverWatch is clinically calibrated to convert the forehead temperature reading(external surface) into internal body temperature which is one of the most important vital signs for human being, but can also be used as an ear thermometer. The bright back-lit LCD screen displays readings even in darkness. For public health authorities, it provides a simple, quick, Non-contact, and non-invasive way to perform preliminary mass-screening for H1N1 fever (swine flu) infection symptoms (body temperatures above 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit or 37 degrees Celsius). The FeverWatch thermometer can take over 100,000 temperatures on a single set of 2 AA batteries, and is able to take over 3,000,000 measurements in the thermometer's lifetime.

The features are great but the accuracy is imprecise, unreproducible and often plain inaccurate.
The concept is great. So many smart features. Don't even have to wake the person up to take the temp. It's got everything . And for a few weeks I was happy as a clam. Then one day everyone had a fever. ANd I checked it on a friend 5 times waiting several minutes between and got a different read every time. Same problem continued after battery change. So I contacted the company and they were super about it and said they would send me another. But I have now used two of them and it's inaccurate. I can't count on it, so it's useless to me. I thought the first one was broken. I got my brand new one a couple days ago and it is was giving me different readings 5 minutes apart on the same people. Some slightly different but some several degrees different. For general use it might be okay. But if you are using it with a truly sick child or adult person who needs to be monitored every couple hours and with one degree of change might need to have a change in treatment or require a call to the doctor-- don't rely on it. So here at home I decided that I had to rule out "user error." Perhaps I was positioning it wrong or making some other mistake. I went over every single step of the instructions. I stood in a mirror and drew a big circle on my forehead so I would aim it in the same spot each time. I tested it on myself 5 minutes apart. Here are the readings I got 97.5 97.7 97.9 98.1 99.5. I can add pix as it's saved in the memory. It said I could read behind the ear, same problem.Really kind helpful customer service, really awesome idea, but just does not cut it.

Accurate and Fast
I purchased this thermometer 2 years ago and it's still going strong. Someone mentioned that its large and made of cheap plastic--it feels durable enough to me and has lasted in our household. It is big but if you are using this at home that won't matter because you just pull it out when needed. It has been priceless for us: It is the only way that I can take my children's temperature unless they are sleeping with is the only time I can get an oral temp. I have tested it numerous times on myself -- comparing it to our trusted name brand digital thermometer and I always get accurate results. You have to make sure you use it correctly. Someone mentioned everyone having 102 degree fevers in their home--you need to point the device squarely in the middle of the forehead. Anywhere else and you won't get a proper reading. This is in the directions. These are also great for getting the temp of bath water or bottles so it really is multi use. I highly recommend this thermometer or an infrared thermometer in general if you have small children. This is essential in our house! If you still are on the fence, read this report:[...]

Great Value. Read the Instructions.
We've used this on our baby boy for the past 3+ months and it's been spot on accurate. After reading his, I always take my own temperature, which is consistently lower than 98.0F as a sort of control and this is reflected correctly with this thermometer. Take the time to read the instructions, program it properly and make sure you aim it at the correct spot from the correct distance each time - if you don't, you won't get consistent readings and I think that's where the variances people complain about in certain reviews are coming from. This thing is great because not only is it accurate, but it gives you a reading in the blink of an eye, which is nice, rather than dealing with a squirming baby who doesn't want a thermometer under his arm (or elsewhere) for an uncomfortable period of time...and he isn't shy about letting you know it. Also, the beep isn't all that loud, so for us, it didn't awake our lil' guy during sleep checks. Ran it by a medic I know and he said it's highly accurate. No need to torture your baby with an invasive temperature probe (which is also risky if he/she is a wiggler). I'd buy this again.

Just got it literally 2hrs ago! I like a lot!
I just received it a few hours ago. So of course I started testing it with everyone in my house. I have to say, it seems accurate. I tested it against one of the ear thermometer's I have. There were small differences (.3 degrees) in readings between this thermometer and the ear one but not material enough to be concerned about.I like the fact, you can take temperature not only of the body but also of surfaces too.Note: Even though I there are slight differences in readings between the ear and the infrared thermometers I have, it could very well have been the other one (ear thermometer) that was off.In terms of ease of use, this is fantastic. 1 second that's it. I wish I knew about this thermometer 2 yrs ago.

Very variable readings - disappointed...
I chose this one for family use after our agency moved to them when the Ebola scare was on. We'd owned a WA hospital "probe" style which is great for a definitive reading but invasive. To be honest I'm a little disappointed. The instructions suggest that you have to let the person be in a location a while to have the air stabilize - seems to me to rule it out for a professional setting. At home following the instructions precisely I could get a reading of 97.1 one moment then 99.0 the next, barely moving a fraction of an inch. Seems to me you could miss Dx easily if you relied on just this. For a sleeping baby maybe it's ok but I just feel I can't trust it.

A quick multi-tasker
I like how quick this thermometer reads and how solid it feels. It appears to give accurate readings considering that what it reads as normal is not going to be the same as a mercury thermometer. Keep in mind that you have to give it a minute between readings, but it reported the same temperature over multiple readings of the same subject. It comes with a carrying bag and instructions that easily fit within the bag so its easy to have both available. The ability to use this to measure surfaces other than a human head is also indicated within the instructions, though I didn't test it. The instructions were easy to read and it appeared very easy to switch the thermometer from one mode to the other.
