It's probably your oven, not you...
This oven thermometer dialed my new oven in to perfection! It found the temps to be 25 degrees too high as it was set. No wonder we were having such a hard time baking., turning temperatures down by guess, shortening cooking times etc. Everything comes out in the times specified now, internal food cooking temps are perfect and coincide beautifully with exterior browning. I had a metal coil type thermometer that said everything was right. It was wrong. If your baking results don't seem to reflect your abilities, maybe your oven just needs a little adjustment. This is probably the answer!

Great thermometer for polymer clay artists
I work with polymer clay and have tried several thermometers to control clay curing, with widely-ranging temperature readouts. I recently ordered this Taylor instrument, which is mercury-based rather than digital, and have been testing it in my convection oven alongside several of my common, digital, polymer clay thermometers. Hands down, the Taylor 5921 mercury-based thermometer gets consistent results and I am so glad to have found this product after nearly a decade of curing polymer clay with inconsistent oven-curing results, due to unreliable oven thermometers.

Ideal solution
I had one of those big round dial ones, but in a small oven it took up all the free space! I had a 'remote' digital one with a probe, but then there was a delicate cable to run and it is almost too accurate (you want to be "exactly" 350* and fight the oven to maintain temps, which isn't realistic or necessary) This hang off the bottom of the rack, so it's never in the way, and always at the same level as the rack that I am cooking on (since the temp varies from the top of the oven to the bottom). Good quality, totally satisfied!

Accurate and easy to read the blue line (once you get the right light)
Needed this to tell me my oven is 100 degrees under the set temperature. Guess it is time for a new stove. Will definitely keep this in the new oven too. Glad I got this one, I believe it is more accurate just as a oral mercury thermometer is the most accurate of all to measure human temperature. I like the blue line, easy to read, but in a poorly lit oven using a flashlight causes a lot of glare back at you because of the shininess of the plate, so don't blind yourself if you use a flashlight. It is also a bit rough to bend over to read it hanging from the rack, screws and rods in the back make that a ruff read. I give it a 5 star because it does it's job and does it well.

Accurate, but a bit hard to read because metal surface is reflective
As far as I can tell it is accurate. The person who calibrated my oven the last time, when the thermostat was replaced, told me that bulb thermometers are much more accurate than the round spring-based ones, which is what I had in there before, so I looked high and low until I found this one. It is anchored very securely, it hangs from the top shelf, and moving pans back and forth on the shelf has not dislodged it.The only issue is that it hangs down too low and would bump a pan on a shelf underneath, but I would rarely bake two things at the same time.It is also a bit hard to read through the window of my oven, the metal surface is reflective and distracting, I sometimes have to get down on my knees to read it accurately or use a flashlight, but I'm still happier that it's a bulb thermometer and it seems to be quite accurate based on the calibration.

Great item recommended by the repairman
We had to have our oven fixed because it wouldn't heat up. When the repairman was here I ask him how I could 'know for sure' if the temperature I set the oven for was accurate. He said I should get a mercury thermometer. He said the cheap one hanging inside my oven was worthless and only mercury ones were accurate. So I ordered this one and I've been very happy with it. It's easy to read and now I know what the exact temperature is in my oven. No more guessing. Great product!

Great little thermometer.
I clamped it around the rack and it works perfectly. Easy to read - but you have to look at it at the right angle. Seems really accurate. I was surprised to find out my oven is actually very accurate. As long as I let it preheat for about 20 to 30 minutes it matches what this thermometer says almost exactly. Had it varied significantly from my oven, I would question the accuracy of one or the other.

This is the ONE to get!
Do not bother with the round dial spring thermometers on the market, they are wildly inaccurate. This is the only one I've ever found that actually reflects the true internal temperature of your oven. I wish it was easier to read, it would be if the made the metal black and the markings white. I did not rate the durability because I haven't had it long enough to evaluate.
