Good Enough for Now
These knitting needles are exactly what I was looking for but to be honest, they're not the best. They needles arrived in clearly marked packaging and all in good shape although some of the smaller sizes were already starting to bend a bit but that is to be expected for such tiny pieces of grass (bamboo is still a grass). It would have been nice to have packaging for them or at least more than single-use plastic but for the price, I didn't expect much so I made a case for them.I really loved that this quick easy purchase gave me all the sizes I could ever need in a single set and all bamboo so I can start practicing with the material (I've been using aluminum for years). I got the set to start knitting my first pair of socks with fingering yarn so I got right to it. The pattern called for 3.25 DPNs (#3) and I'm glad to say that they are true to gauge, I checked each needle just to make sure on my sizer. How do they knit, you ask?Well they work fine, the tips are fine on this size and from what I could tell they were ok on the larger sizes too but I'm used to Aluminum and bamboo tends to have slightly more rounded tips but nothing I didn't already know and expect. The problem was that one of the 5 splintered on my 3rd round! Man, that was fast! It splintered from about the middle (not from where the number is engraved but I would expect that to be a splinter-starter) and it hit my finger. I pulled the splinter off but the end kept snagging yarn so I took a file to it and smoothed it out a bit. I don't personally have a problem with doing this but if the needles had been made properly there would not be any fiber ends in the middle of the needle to cause splintering at all.I didn't expect gold and some of the other reviewers mentioned splintering and splitting as well so I was warned but I still think this is a great set for starting out and at the price I think I can afford to even buy it again if I want to replace some needles so I think it was the right purchase and one I'd recommend to someone starting out (or just looking to try bamboo for the first time).Happy Knitting!!

A good set for a casual knitter
General comments:If you're a casual knitter, this is a really good deal.I originally got this set to make socks and pay as little as possible without sacrificing too much quality. I also figured I'd could probably use some DP needles for other round projects. And I ended up using the other sets. This set has made life SO much easier with projects. I try to minimize the amount of sewing in my knitting projects when I can and these needles have helped me do that.Packaging (as of 2012, when I received them):The set comes in a big plastic bag. Each set of double pointed needles comes in its own mini plastic bag labeled with the size in millimeters and the US sizes. All the needles are individually marked with the their size as well. I haven't had an issue with the numbers rubbing off the needles yet.Feel:I can't give too much comment on how this compares to other kinds of needles. However, if you're particular about feel, it may be safer for you to try a pair of Stitchberry needles before committing to buying a set from them. If you're not up for that, there are other, more detailed reviews on the feel of these needles.Problems:I've had this 8" double point needle set for about 2.5 years now. I haven't had any major problems with them so far, but that could be because I'm a casual knitter.A few other reviewers had problems with chipping, splintering, and snagging. I'm not too nit picky about needle care aside from putting any fragile needles in a box before taking them for a walk. When I come across a splinter or snag, a light sanding with a nail file or sand paper has done the trick for me. I also live in a relatively high humidity area (at least 60s), but I don't know how that will affect the bamboo.I would agree with some other reviewers that this set could use a case. First, to keep the sizes organized and secondly, to better protect the needles from life. I would've paid a few more dollars for a nice leather case (or in some other durable material). Conclusion:Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase of these needles and will look into this company again if I need another set of needles. Also, they do sell DP needle sets individually. I lost one of my size 0 needles, so I ordered another set so I could finish my socks. That size in bamboo is probably the easiest to break anyway. It's like knitting with kabob skewers.

I like these needles and will buy them in other lengths to build up my needle supply.
I was hesitant to order these needles because of some of the bad reviews. I'm glad I gave them a chance and ordered them. The package arrived with all the sets and none of the needles had splinters, cracks or any other defects. The points on all of them are all uniformly shaped with just the right sharpness to slide through knitting. The 'feel' of the needles while starting out knitting with them is not 'slick' (think writing with a pencil vs. writing with a roller ball ink pen). However, after knitting the brim of a child's hat I noticed the needles had started to smooth out a little like they were kind of sanding themselves against each other. Following advise from other reviews I treated the needles with some bees wax & coconut oil lip balm I had. I just rubbed it in and then polished with a few strokes. By the time I completed the hat the needles had smoothed out even more. The needles do have a kind of 'grip' on the yarn that prevents the needles from sliding out of the knitting. Having had metal needles slide out of my knitting many times before I find the 'grip' of these needles beneficial. No snagging, pulling or difficulty sliding the yarn over the needles while knitting but a slight grip on the yarn that keeps it from sliding around. I've used the 5, 6 & 7 sizes. I'm happy enough with these needles that I will look for this same set in a 4" length and buy those too.
