Cute
Love that there is some Hmong representation even though it was very short. This book makes a lot of sense if you’re a Minnesotan from StPaul or Minneapolis where there are a lot of Hmong, Hispanic and Somali people. I bought it because I wanted more Hmong Books for my nephew and niece that live in WI but they didn’t quite understand since they don’t have that much diversity around them.

This book is monolingual with only certain words another language
It’s a book that explains there are different languages in the world and is very educational however when I purchased it I was under the assumption that the book would be written in English, Spanish, and Hmong.

This is a fun, lively book that will encourage young children to seek out other languages around them ...
Camila was a new student in the classroom and Romelie was interested in being her friend. English was the spoken language in the classroom, but both of the girls spoke a different language at home. It was going to be exciting to learn each other’s languages! Camila spoke Spanish at home and Romelie’s family used American Sign Language because her brother was deaf. The family used their “hands, bodies and faces” to talk with him. Camila was able to sign the word ‘escuela’ and Romelie knew that it meant ‘school.’It was going to be fun learning more about Spanish and sharing with Camila. Romelie was going to “play a language game” with her mother over the weekend. She was going to speak the words she learned from Camila, but they would go in search of new ones. “Language is all around us,” her mother said as she pointed to a street sign. “Many come from American Indian Languages.” They went in search of other languages and found French, Hmong, Somali, Arabic, and even Norwegian. What languages can you find around you? This is a fun, lively book that will encourage young children to seek out other languages around them. Romelie is very excited to share her language and learn about different ones, something many children would be interested in. The search for other languages is the type of game children would enjoy with a friend or as a classroom project. The book comes alive as Romelie discovers words around her. For example, she finds that her shampoo bottle has English, Spanish, and French words. In the back of the book is an index, a glossary of words used in the text, the American Sign Language alphabet, and additional recommended book and website resources to explore. There are free complementary downloadable educational resources on the publisher’s website.CLOVERLEAF BOOKS ALIKE AND DIFFERENT: My Clothes, Your Clothes My Family, Your Family My Food, Your Food My Home, Your Home My Language, Your Language My Religion, Your Religion This book courtesy of the publisher.
