First thoughts: Glad I finally bought one! With update...
I received this today less than an hour ago, so take this for what it’s worth...a first impression only. I’ll provide an updated review later. I’ve been on the fence about buying the perch for many years, mainly because of the reviews. I’ve cycled through three of the posts in about 14 years (for the same two cats, now one). My boy has taken to sitting on the top, new place new vantage point I guess, so I decided it was time to roll the dice to help make him more comfortable. Very glad I did! It slides right on, feels extremely sturdy and is bigger than I expected. Never bothered with measurements but it looks vastly wider after seeing him balance on the post top daily. He’s only 10lbs and will be 18 this year, still agile but fragile. Now about that cushion...everything you read is true, unfortunately. Super slippery and definitely not acceptable as designed. As an immediate fix, I slipped a pot holder with rubber backing under there just to let him test it. Works surprisingly well!! I put him right on it and he took to it instantly. Yay! Then I noticed the base started wobbling as he moved. It doesn’t normally do that. But it’s been a long time since I tightened anything on it, so I’m really hoping that will be easily resolved. Like I said, first impressions only. One more thing of note....mainly cosmetic. The underside of the brace or perch base that slides on, is now visible to me from a low angle (on the sofa) and it’s a bit of visual noise I wasn’t counting on seeing. It bothers me after having such attractive, clean lines from the post all these years. Or it’s because I’m a total fuss-pot in general! I also don’t love the tacky red oven-mitt looking red cushion either. I plan on yanking some tips from other reviewers here by using a flor carpet tile (on order) and maybe using a smartly placed piece of ribbon to hide the brace underneath. This is for him though, so if it doesn’t work out, that’s okay. He loves laying on anything red anyway, so weirdly that might be better.I’ll let you know my final thoughts and send pictures. But no matter what, I’m not sorry that I finally tried it!Update: I really should have waited to make my review. I haven’t made the cosmetic adjustments I mentioned yet. But I did buy a new post and after setting it up I realized the perch does not fit as well on the new one. It readily slides out of place but it fitted snuggly on the old post. It’s only been about a week, so it should not have needed tightening that soon. Now the whole thing seems like more trouble than it’s worth. Lots of fiddling around to make it work. I took it off and my cat is back up there on the tiny post top, very happy with his old balancing act! He didn’t really trust the perch as is, and neither do I. Also, the Flor tiles I chose were absolutely hideous (which is my own fault) so I’m officially out of more money than I was willing to spend on this. I LOVE what others here have done but I think this might end up being a waste for me. It’s not a waste altogether, so I’m not dropping stars. You will definitely need to take their advice though, and it’s probably a very simple DYI fix. I’m still not sorry I bought it, because I would have regretted not trying it at least. If I get it to work and actually feel confident using it enough to properly recommend, I will report back!

Great idea for the scratching post loved by kitties
This makes the scratching post into a portable cat condo of sorts to give kitty a higher place to hang out in an area where there isn't a good option like the kitchen. I wish it came in different colors. The perch is very stable but the cover slides off and this can be a problem and scare the kitty from using it. The velcro is working but the sticky circular thing that holds it is not adhering to the perch. Kitties overall love it and it is very useful. The ultimate scratching post is the best ever and the cats really use it often.

Perch becomes dislodged when my kitty springs off it.
I have a Maine Coon kitten, who at 7 months weighs 12 lbs. He loves to sit on his 'pedestel', and likes to spring off it as well, which causes the perch to dislodge, as it is only secure on three sides. We are constantly having to slide the perch back into position. Having a means to secure the fourth side would solve this issue. The size of the perch, while probably ideal for most cats, is fast becoming too small for my Maine Coon. His feet and legs dangle off the sides. Offering a larger perch size would be appreciated. The quilted pad uses Velcro to attach to the perch so it is removable for laundering. With only a couple of month's use, the Velcro has pulled off so that the pad will not stay in place on the perch. The pad is also very thin and flat. I had hoped it would be a little plusher for kitty's comfort. I love the idea and basic functionality, but believe it should be tweeked for better performance. It was easy to assemble and my kitty loves it. Unfortunately, he's near to outgrowing it. I would recommend this product, but suggest before using that you add a bracket to the fourth side to keep it securely on the base.

great product / poor quality control
summary:great looking/secure fit. my cat loved it from the second i put it on and took a step back. adhesive on velcro circles not strong enough-- you'll need to glue them down if your cat is a sloppy climber like mine-- when she pulls off the straps it was taking the little velcro stickers with them. after some krazy glue to hold them down i'm quite happy with the product. cushion is easily detached and washable, which is a huge bonus with pet furniture. made in china.. quality control doesn't seem that great, but it's solidly built and a must buy if you already have the scratching post (and don't own some luxurious cat tree or something).----full review----bought this to slide on to my SmartCat scratching post. All i can figure is that I got one someone had returned previously. The pieces that hold the perch on to the scratching post were slightly uneven, so i had to really slam it on and push it real tight while bending the flimsy plastic "stay" on one side. Once it was on it was secure though, and my only concern is that one plastic piece popping off. if it does, it's a cheap/quick fix, and not really a necessary part anyway.the velcro circles on the bottom of the perch that keep the cushion on were not secure. within minutes my kitten (who climbs up the post sloppily to get to the perch) had pulled off 2 straps and the velcro circles came with them. these could easily come permanently affixed from the factory, I don't know why they use these cheap stickers. I had to Krazy Glue them down so they'd stop detaching (the circles to the bottom of the perch, not the straps!). The adhesive just wasn't powerful enough to withstand the power of my feline companion, Sarah.with the circles secure, the perch on tight-- Sarah the cat couldn't be happier. She started using the perch as soon as I put it on, and it's her new favorite hang out spot. I would highly recommend this (and the scratching post it affixes to) to any cat owner whose cat likes to have a nice view of the room.

Not fit for purpose, needs stronger attachments on seat and pad.
Fortunately I read the reviews first before purchase, but still was not prepared for what happened,Step 1 took out of packaging, step 2 attached pad to seating area,Step 3 attached them to the post,Then I took the seating area off to look for how it does not slide off,Then I gently pulled the velcro strap to mimic what I would do if I was going to wash the pad,21 seconds passed and the black velcro dot came away with the bit I would naturally have to take off to wash occasionally, I'd had the product in my house for approximately 5 mins and allready not fit to put on the cat post,Felt like the glue they used was no better than prit stick, sorry pritt stick other glues like that are available and are used for paper!I could not believe how quick it was not usable, shame on the designer or manufacturer!Improvements needed make seat area a little bigger, sort obvious issues with velcro attachments and I will recomend the product!I have left the seat off until I can fix it, I purchased the ultimate cat post because of the size of my maine coon who weighs in at 6.7 kg, it was advertised for bigger cats, so it's more than a little dissapoining that the seat is not fit for purpose when it arrives, and that many customers are having to make repairs to the product,Would like to say my cat likes the post, and he will like the seat when I make it fit for purpose! On closer inspection I can see why the top slides off without much use, a tiny piece of flimsy bending plastic is in place of what should be in my opinion be something metal or better still the perch should come as part of the origanal post and screwed down to post, I wonder why this is not so, 🤔 maybe they decided to divide post into portions to maximise there income, my opinion is the thing should be suitable, and safe for cats to use!!!!Congratulations this has been one of the quickest things to fall apart!5 minutes !!!! Should be a record! After fixing the seat pad issue and then finding the flimsy plastic I wonder why it was made so porely, my cat still can't use it as I'm having to come up with a plan for the plastic problem now, so dissapointed and unless you want to fix these problems.Further update, my cat now prefers the post without the seat section, so all that expense, stress, money, time and effort to make it safe!!!!!And he won't use it.I would not purchase, or recomend until they fix the issues.

My cats will use it, and that’s enough for me
1 month edit: Very happy with this purchase, regret not buying it from the start. I have yet to see the cushion or the perch itself slide, and my cats aren’t gentle about getting up there. They really like napping on the perch now! :)Original review: I caved and bought this because my cats have started sitting on top of the post. The fact that they are willing to sit on this thing and aren’t more interested in the box it came in is enough to justify the cost to me.It’s sturdy and slides on easily. I did put some blutack on the end as a precaution, but I don’t think it’s really necessary.

Cats love it but some recent quality issues
My two cats use this perch all the time but the last two units I ordered seemed to have some quality issues where the sticky tape has come off on all 4 sides. Easy to fix if you want to buy some gorilla tape and do it yourself or ask Amazon to replace it. Fantastic service by Amazon and replacement came in two days which was impressive and had the sa.e issue Soni just got double sided tape and fixed it. It seems some low quality tape was used or units have been sitting in a smoking hot container and it came lose. Otherwise very good and cats are happy.
