Omigosh we love everything about this
We are cat lovers and my son and I just finished reading "There Once Was a Cat" for about the third time this week. There is nothing not to love about this delightful book. I grew up with some beloved poetry books and this is surely a new one for the ages. There is a great cat limerick on each page, with a cat named for every letter of the alphabet. Not only that, you can search the lovely illustrations for those letters and try to find as many instances of them as you can, checking for the right answer at the back of the book. We loved the poems, the images and the fun exercises included. Can't recommend this one enough.

A Perfect Gift for All Ages!
A perfect gift for children and adults (of any age)! Mary Jane Cogan has created a beautifully illustrated walk through the ABC's with colorful cats and cleverly crafted limericks. Ideal for young children learning their alphabet; for older children to demonstrate a unique and fun way to combine art and poetry; and adults of all ages, especially if you love cats and beautiful artwork!

For every cat lover1
For anyone who has ever owned, or loved, a cat, this book is a treasure! Ms. Cogan captures cats in many of their usual poses and inserts them in her magical scenes. The clever limericks are quotable and her delicate pictures charming. I have read this book over and over to my granddaughters whose ages range from 6 to 18. All ask for a repeat! Many of my cat loving friends have also enjoyed this book at my recommendation. Hats off to a very talented lady and cat lover! Linda C.

Well worth while
This is a darling book. I found the illustrations fascinating, and really enjoyed the limericks. It was fun to search for the particular letters and to try to find the correct amount.

Delightful book for both reader and listener alike...
Delightful book for both reader and listener alike. Tongue twisting use of words create lyrical prose while illustrations offer the quest for hidden letters A-Z as an interactive feature.

It's about cats & limericks
I was completely enchanted by this book that is equally entertaining as it is educational. I had forgotten what is a limerick and was happy to be reminded that it is:"a short poem that rhymes, has a bouncy rhythm, and is usually silly. The rhythm pattern makes a limerick fun to read aloud and fun to memorize."The author has written and illustrated 26 limericks about cats, each one having a name beginning with the letters of the alphabet. The young reader learns their ABC's in a fun-filled way. There are upper case and lower case letters in each illustration. The author has creatively incorporated in each chapter letters that correspond to the name of the cat. The reader can find and count the letters, then check the total with the answer page at the back of the book. A youngster can gain experience in the alphabet, in letter recognition and in counting skills.I highly recommend this multi-faceted book for poetry lovers and cat lovers alike. It's a wonderful teaching tool for parents to use as they read with their children.Sandra Olshaski's disclaimer: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
