Could have fooled me!
When this book first arrived, I paged through it and thought "Another waste of money. I don't care about tabs, I want chords and the book doesn't even get to them until page 30 and there's only 47 pages in the whole book." Well now, having to spend more time in the house, I picked it up again just for the heck of it. Shame on me. This book is a treasure chest. I am learning and relearning more about ukulele playing than I ever imagined! I am learning notes as well as chords and music theory I had never paid any attention to before. I downloaded the free recordings and try to play along. I'm so slow I haven't been able to get past pp.8-9! I am definitely a beginner but if I stick with this book I have hope of advancing a bit. Thanks, Ukulele Mike. May you rest in peace.

Great Teaching Method Book
I use this book to teach ukulele for all ages. It's designed for absolute beginners who may not know how to read music (I believe reading music is an important skill), but for those who do not want to learn, there's tab for every song. It starts with moving the left hand on the fretboard with single note melodies (right hand can use a pick or fingerstyle) which is the perfect preparation for later chord work. The left hand needs to know how to navigate before complex chord formations are accessible. It steps through the notes in a great progressive manner and addresses chords later on. I also use Everybody's Guitar Method for teaching and FJH's young beginner guitar method. These are great method books for teaching, with clean layouts and of course public domain songs, which is typical of most method books. Some of these songs are originals though and have a more modern feel than Oh Susannah or other songs like that.

I love it - I found out about the author through a you tube tutorial. The book is easy to use and makes me want to get the next one. I played Happy Birthday to my son using this resource over the phone (okay - my playing needs a lot practice), My son liked it!Thank you xox Sarah

Good choice for beginner uke player
Starts with the basics, including how to hold the instrument, strumming, playing notes on each string, music reading fundamentals, playing chords, lots of songs to practice. Everything you need to get going with an uke!

Good way to learn fingerpicking the melody
Excellent book for learning notes on strings and fingerpicking. There is some good information on chords and strumming styles but I was hoping for more strumming tips.

Buy this book
Bought this book at the recommendation of my uke teacher, and I'm so glad I bought it. It has just the right amount of music theory woven in with practicing songs.
