Political Philosophy: The Essential Texts 3rd edition

Solid content, abysmal binding
The content is of course goung to be indispensable to any student looking for a well rounded introduction to political philosophy, however on my first day with the book, upon opening to Locke's second treatise of government for the first time, pages came loose from the poor binding. Intensely disappointed in the Oxford University Press and more disappointed there isn't a loose leaf version I could purchase or a hardcover version with a proper binding.

Some good source material; The book itself is designed to fall apart so students can't resell it.
Its a alright source book but as with most Oxford University Press books I've come across lately, it's designed to fail - unless you're very careful the spine will develop an irreparable crease which leads to pages falling out and the whole thing essentially disintegrating after a couple weeks of normal use. I'm sure they do this so students can't resell their books at the end of the semester which is really sleazy if you ask me.I also didn't like the fact that the editors of this book essentially omitted, with the exception of Aquinas, over 1,000 years of political philosophy (i.e the medieval period, which produced some brilliant works of political theory).

This is a great book if you are looking for the ORIGINAL writings ...
This is a great book if you are looking for the ORIGINAL writings of all the major western philosophers. As a student I thoroughly enjoy learning from this book, as the text is not a quick read, but you have to understand.

Please distribute an E-book, save trees.
There is no E-book for this. An E-book would have helped me study significantly considering how much text there is.

AN EXCELLENT REFERENCE BOOK WITH GREAT TEXTS
This is a compulsory book and a powerful guide for those interested in the history of ideas in general and in political thinking in particular. It offers plenty of perspective from within for Philosophy students, historians and, I would dare to add, even those among the general public who want to truly understand (and develop) the philosophical bases of their political thought.
