Amazing Results on 16+ Years of Black Box Dye
I've been dying my hair with black box color for over 16 years. Before I settled on Color Zap, I did a lot of exhaustive research on the gentlest products that would lift a million layers of black oxidized dye from my already fragile hair. After reading all the stench warnings for Color Oops, and a few others I chose to settle on Color Zap.Yes, Color Zap smells like sticking your nose into a bottle of ammonia and breathing deep (I used a face mask to minimize inhaling the fumes). However, it managed to lift all those zillions of layers of black dye to a deep red with one application! Talk about impressive! I wasn't going for blonde, or even any resemblance to a natural tone; rather, I wanted to do a black and burgundy ombré!Now, for the specs. If your hair is long and thick like mine (waist long), and you want to lift color from your whole head of hair, you WILL need 4+ boxes of this product for one pass. It doesn't provide a huge amount of product, which can pose a problem for those who want to change their entire head of uber long hair. Trust me on this, as I barely had enough using two boxes to treat the lower half of my hair, and my bangs/fringe. It's very important, also, to mix the solution in a bleaching/coloring mixing bowl. It's much easier to brush onto hair rather than pouring it on. The darker your hair color, the longer you will want to leave it on. I left it on for about 90 minutes, and got a fairly appreciable result. A couple days later, I applied a gentle bleaching solution that contains conditioners, and used a 20 Volume Developer. It lifted my hair to a medium red, and my bangs are a very light ginger tone. After rinsing the bleach out thoroughly, I applied an intensive repair mask to my hair, covered it in a plastic hair cover before bed, as left it in for a total of 7 hours. That REALLY helped, and now my hair feels like it did before I started this entire process.Definitely research your options, learn how to properly use these products by watching videos and reading beauty blogs whenever possible. Knowledge is power. With that said, I will always use Color Zap because I had positive results on my 9,009 billion trillion layers of black dye over a 16+ year period.Hope this helps!

my hair looks and feels like straw, and it burns my scalp
I bought this because I have had red hair multiple times throughout the year and the red tint does NOT come out if you just cover it with a brown box dye. it looks the same as it does if you bleach it, but it definitely is less damaging. when i bleach my hair, the ends are always fried and break off, my hair looks and feels like straw, and it burns my scalp. with this, it did none of those things. i have a very sensitive scalp, and never burned. it was slightly itchy though. as with most hair products, it did leave my hair slightly dry. after i put a brown dye over it, i used some argan oil hair treatments for a few days and didn't wash it. when i did wash it, it felt very soft and did not get tangled. it felt better than when i just use a regular box dye by itself. i recommend using this if you're going blonde. use this first, bleach the next day, and put on an ash based toner or dye.

It's ok
This is not the first time I've been using this product. However comparing to the salon, the hair feels healthy(well I also use hair masks after).I had black/raven hair and wanted to switch to red.I knew that if I go to a salon they will probably fry my hair and cut and probably ask me to come back several times. My hair is medium long(goes over the shoulders) and very full so I bought 2 packs. It didn't really cover the entire hair(hence not the 5 stars) really but it achieved the expected results.I have now a dark auburn...that is ok for now.I will probably have to repeat the operation in 2-3 months but only on the areas that are darker not entire hair. I am satisfied BUT if you have long/thick/full/black dyed hair you better buy more than 2 bottles.

Harsh, and little result
This product is not good. It's extremely drying and lightened the color only slightly. 'Remover' is a misnomer. Sally's Beauty Supply has much better products that cost less.

Do not use this
The product will royally damage your hair, I had to cut so much off because it was beyond damaged. It also leaves your hair an orange Afro!

Removes color fairly quickly
Just like it says, it doesn't return your natural color, it removes the dye. If you are going to bleach your hair, don't use this first, that's too much chemical damage. It starts working pretty quickly, and feels like a bleach would.
