Give your cat the off-floor perch and security they love for bird-watching, people-watching or a cozy catnap. This comfortable resting spot is padded with a soft foam cushion and covered with a plush fleece cover of machine washable polyester. The Kitty Shelf will support up to 20 pounds. It is easy to install and move, attaching without screws or nails. Two metal brackets slip between the window sill and window sash. A vinyl-tipped arm braces it against the wall without marring.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I never thought I would find a cat perch that would work with the sliding windows in my mobile home, but to my surprise, this one installed in under 5 minutes without velcro tape or screws. This shelf is sturdy, even when my silly Burmese hangs off the edge of it. She loves this shelf. I live in San Diego, and right now the night time temperature is about 70. I leave the window open (yes, you can close the window without removing the perch when it rains or gets too cool) and when she gets too warm sleeping on my bed she just hops on the perch and catches the breeze. One thing I should mention - she is full grown and weighs 7 1/2 pounds. She litterally "boings" off the bookcase and up onto the perch, and it doesn't move. I only mention this because I can't say that if your cat weighs 20 lbs it will be as sturdy for your furball as it is for mine. Also, the sash in mobile home windows is slimmer than most regular windows so the brackets had to be hammered down between the sill and the sash, making it super sturdy. If your space between the sill and sash is a little too wide, try putting a wooden paint stirrer under the seat so it sits on the sill and adjust the bracket underneath accordingly. I did that on another window and it was fine. I will probably order another one very shortly for the master bedroom window, and another for a Christmas gift for a neighbor with a furball. These are wonderful, and the cover comes off for cleaning which is an added bonus. Well worth the price, I've seen the covers for these selling for $10, without the perch. Great bargain and no screw holes in the window sill!

Cat likes it
Not the most sturdy thing - if the cat puts all her weight on one of the corners farther from the window it has a tendency to tip over. Solved by putting a straight-backed chair under it, which also gives Kitteh the means to jump up to the window (it's a very old cat). "Fastens" by sitting in the track of your window - if you have sliders this means the window cannot close while the bed is in place. All that being said, for the price it's a decent enough product - especially for those of us who live in apartments where we cannot screw anything into the wall or apply sticky-tape to painted surfaces to hold the item in place. Kitteh uses this often at those times of year when sun comes into that window and seems to enjoy it.

Good value but my kitty didn't use it
Since I ended up returning this shelf, which was more for shipping than the product almost, I will just say that it is a comfy cat shelf for not much money and easy to assemble. When my two year old flighty cat did not want to settle on it, even after trying different window ledges, I decided she's not the relaxed settle on the window ledge type. It is a good product and sturdy enough for it's value for a more settled cat.

Great idea but needs some work
Kitty Shelf Model KS-1 As several other reviewers noted, the shelf can be very unstable & would work better if screwed to the window ledge or wall. I bought the shelf specifically in order to remove at night so neither of the above were options for me. Every time my cat (13 lbs) jumped onto the shelf, it was enough to pop the metal clips out from between the window & the ledge & down they came. Luckily my husband is a carpenter and he made 2 wooden support arms that he bolted to the wood shelf. The shelf is now balanced & doesn't budge when my cat jumps onto it. That said, if the manufacturer were to supply 2 metal support brackets instead of one, this issue would disappear.

Cat loves it
Got this for my cat she really likes it alot. I have read that it was alittle wobbley, and was worried she would never get on it wrong. She sits on it for hours on end. It can be alittle shaky just when they jump up on it but really not that noticable and does not bother my cat. Who is very finikey. Very easy to put together, and to put up not much to it.

Psycho Cat
This shelf is simple to install, ingenious, andinexpensive. However our cat, being a cat, hasnot accepted it yet. It is July 1 and the shelfcover is fur-like. It may too warm for her. Butwho knows with cats.We feel that she will like itas the weather turns cooler. This cat needs to seea shrink.

It works and I will keep it. The board is very light so if your CAT weights a lot like mine you may need a stronger one and not this one. My cat is about 15 pounds and this is really pushing it so they should have a weight limit on the advertizing. Over all.....happy!

Would buy again with what i know now
The shelf had to be modified to hold our cat's weight(8lbs). I had to drill out a hole on the wall support bracket and anchor to the wall. Easy to do. May be the manufacture could add this to the product ?
