Born of Fire
Bounty hunter Shahara Dagan is desperate. She needs the money that capturing the elusive and dangerous convict C.I. Syn will give her to pay off her sister's debts and medical bills. Shahara wasn't counting on Syn being so handsome or that he would be different from the ruthless rapist and murderer he's been portrayed as.Syn is tired of being hunted for crimes he didn't commit. When the latest attempt on his life comes from his friend's sister, he has to figure out how to save himself from Shahara's blade and her brother's wrath. Turns out, his heart is in more danger than his body when it comes to Shahara though; she's exactly what he's always wanted, but never been able to have. There is more to Syn than what Shahara first thought, and now they're on the run together. Neither trust easily, but in order to survive, they'll have to try. There are fates worse than death and they're about to find out what they are.Born of Fire is the next exciting and action packed story set in the Ichidian Universe. Syn is superhuman. He can take more physical and emotional pain than any mere mortal could. While he's trudging along in his lonely existence, Shahara is enduring the weight of the world on her shoulders. She's very strong emotionally and physically and yet, her vulnerability is obvious. She and Syn have a lot in common. They both have painful pasts and feel unworthy of finding happiness, aong with being very jaded. Issues of trust and feelings of abandonment also play a role in how their personalities are molded. Throughout Born of Fire, Syn and Shahara survive one dangerous adventure after another. Each brings them closer to each other. Their desire and respect for each other grows, but their pasts always get in the way of any possible future together. While her heroes can be a bit predictable- yet still amazing- Kenyon always manages make their stories fresh and exciting and that's what keeps me coming back for more.NannetteReviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Great insight
I've never read an author that can have you feeling like a character is the villain and in another book you realize you never really know what is going on when you're on the outside looking in. That villain has been going through trials you had no idea about. If we could all remember this in real life, how much better would our world be?

unbalanced
The second book in the newly re-released League series begins during the happenings of the first in the series, Born of Night. The author warns that the timelines for each of these two books does not quite add up correctly by stating she wrote these books separately, not exactly intending them to be part of series. I appreciated the warning. The story begins with Shahara. She is one of the best bounty hunters, but her family debts and obligations have made it impossible for her to reap the rewards of her hard work. When her sister is hospitalized and there is no money for pay the bill, she decides to take a large paying bounty: to find the notorious C.I. Syn.Syn is surprised when he finds Shahara in his home. His state-of-the-art security system did not keep the cunning Shahara from attempting to arrest him. He got the better of her and simply kept her prisoner in his home, though he never mistreated her.Shahara soon realizes that Syn is not who she thought, but has she discovered the real Syn too late to help him fight people out for his head?Syn and Shahara make an interesting couple. They complement each other, especially with their snarkiness. Both are flawed and broken, although Syn may be too flawed to relate to. His back-story is long and in-depth with a decent amount of detail... and loooooong. His story is so over-the-top at points, he is difficult to relate to. Also, I had a hard time trying to pinpoint Syn's age. Normally, I would not care about the age of a character, but timeline is important in this book and his age simply does not fit. In my mind, his life could not fit into everything he had done. I dwell on this because I believe that Syn, as well as many other aspects of the novel, were not planned well.Whereas Syn is too complicated, Shahara seems overly simple when compared to him. In respect to story, the two do not balance well together. As stated before, Syn's story overshadows Shahara because the plot spends too much time with him and not enough with Shahara. In general, I did like Born of Fire. I read it quickly, but felt the book was entirely too long. I believe if Syn's story was simplified and the plot shortened, Born of Fire would have been excellent. As it stands, the book is all right and will appeal to fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon.BookingIt Grade: C+

Love and Betrayal
This is the second book in this series from Sherrilyn Kenyon. I was surprised by some of the bad reviews this book received. Some said it was boring or this is her worst book yet... I didn't think so, in fact I really liked this book. It is filled with action, romance, suspense, mystery and betrayal. This book kept the action moving from page one though the chronological order is just a bit different from the first book this story still flows extremely well. I loved Syn's character in the first book, so I'm glad that the author gave him his own book! This is a story of a good man who has had to face so many horrors in his life because of his parentage.Sharaha is a kick-ass femme fatale who needs money to take care of her siblings. Syn is a convict with a warrant for his capture. Sharaha doesn't care if Syn is innocent or guilty so long as she gets paid the court can figure the rest out. She's got her assignment and everything is perfectly planned if only Syn would cooperate! The one thing this ball kicking vixen doesn't count on is falling for a criminal! Can't wait to start the next book!

Excellent Continuation
I had doubts about this series, first because of their original publishing hiccups, second because of the general genre (romance and sci-fi don't usually combine on my bookshelf)and finally because of the very mixed reviews ranging from awful to excellent. But as with all doubts, the only way to be sure is to take a leap into the unknown and hope you come out unscathed the other side. In this case, the risk was well worth it.This is the second book of the series and be aware that there are two versions. The original which has a change of character names and by far a lot less detail, and the most recent version which has been edited and had detail added back in to fit into the league series as it was first intended. If you are new to the series be sure to buy the latest publication. So this follows Syn, who was a side character in the previous book, and the newly introduced character Shahara. Shahara is a tracer and takes on a contract to capture Syn, preferably alive, only she finds that doing so is just a little harder than she really expected. I won't say much more than that as there are several synopsis' available which will do a better job than me of outlining the story.I really did enjoy this book and found it a mild form of torture to put it down when mundane daily tasks interrupted. Given the chance I would have quite happily devoured it from cover to cover. Syn's character, which already had a fair bit of padding out in the previous book (considering he was only a side character then), is thoroughly explored and expanded in this book. Its hard not to like him despite how callous he can be at times. Shahara was also a nicely rounded character, hot-headed at times and capable but at the same time she has a naivety and vulnerability which draws you in and makes her feel all the more real. The combination of these two characters alone proved interesting all by itself, add in the back-story for both characters along with the ongoing plot-line and you've got a real winner. As others have pointed out, this book is not as fast paced as its predecessor, but it is by no means dull or slow either. It is paced nicely and allows room for breathing between heavy action scenes.Excellent book, rivals the first easily - it's rather hard to say for sure which I prefer of the two.

The League Series (Nemisis Rising) Born of Fire. Amazing!!!
I thought I loved the first book about Nykyrian and Kiara, but Syn and Shahara were even better. The story lines in the League series are excellent. I cannot fault Sherrilyn Kenyon in any way.
