D5161 Self Watering Deck N Rail Planter, Stone

This planter looks good and sits firmly on a 6" railing...BUT, it falls short on the "self-watering" idea. Basically it's about 4" deep for the soil. (In other words, shallow) The soil sits on a grid. It comes without instructions, so you have to sort of wing it to set it up. I found a video on youtube which glosses over the set up. If you're familiar with earthboxes, it is similar - soil wicks dropping into the water reservoir. The "1 gallon reservoir" sounds like a lot, but really is like a large saucer under a large pot. It can dry up fast, especially in hot weather. The only way to refill is to water the plant until it appears overwatered. At least that's all I can figure out. It looks good, and if you don't mind watering, go for it! If you plan on going away for a week or so, make sure your plants are drought tolerant.

The product is missing pieces. It's missing the spacers. This enables you to attach to the deck rail. Please send rest of order I need this packet thanks

I really love this planter and may purchase another one later this season. Too much packing material but good condiiton.

I purchased 3 planters but when I received, they were all missing the 2 expandable planters that were suppose to be included? Instructions also stated they came with planter for tiering? I didn't want to return them…. I would just like to have all parts that were included? Thanks

Just planted my herb gardens in these, and I will see how they grow and if the self watering system is any more effective than traditional planters.

can't get my plants to grow in it...don't know if I'm watering to much or not enough....or used the wrong soil.
