If you want to understand the big local and international debates about education, read this book.
This is one of the most important books on education to be published in several years. It establishes conclusively, with detailed statistics and analysis, that equitable school systems work better for educating young people than systems which are "market-based" and test driven. It shows that the three countries which have allowed profit-motivations and competition to drive education policy decline by every measure, including international test scores. In fascinating chapters which leave out confusing educational jargon, the U.S. is compared with Ontario in Canada; Sweden is compared with Finland; and Chile is compared with Cuba. I can't recommend it highly enough

Pure ideological bias.
Incredibly biased, mixes ideology with arbitrary examples. Uses numbers in a misleading way. You almost wished you lived in Cuba. No charter success acknowledged, not even one. An intellectual fraud.
