Trumpeter 1/700 USS San Francisco CA38 Heavy Cruiser 1942 Model Kit

I have good reason to have a strong bias in favor of this ship, and thus to appreciate the model:This ship was the greatest protection to the convoy that brought my father to Guadalcanal in mid-November, 1942.My father was a U.S. Army Captain (a doctor w/ the advance party of the 48th Station Hospital), transported in USN Task Group TG 67.1 (under RAdm Turner), which carried American reinforcements to Guadalcanal: 5,500 men, including the 1st Marine Aviation Engineer Battalion, the 4th Marine Replacement Battalion, two battalions of the U.S. Army's 182nd Infantry Regiment, ammunition and supplies. The transport group, commanded by Captain Ingolf N. Kiland, consisted of the troopships: USS McCawley (AP-10), President Jackson (APA-18), President Adams (APA-19), and Crescent City (APA-21). The escort was: heavy cruiser USS San Francisco (CA-38), light cruisers USS Helena (CL-50), and Juneau (CL-52), destroyers USS Cushing (DD-376), Laffey (DD-459), Sterett (DD-407), Buchanan (DD-484), Shaw (DD-373), Gwin (DD-433), and Preston (DD-379). [A number of these ships are quite famous among naval historians, due to the amazing night sea battle that happened 13-15 November.]And so, it is probable that USS San Francisco was the largest, and most powerful USN warship that my father saw in transit to Guadalcanal. My father must have watched the profile of this ship, as it sailed in escort for his convoy, and have had high hopes for it's success. The ship is thus meaningful to my family. I appreciate having such a fine model of it.

Pretty detailed. Nice price. Ships fast. Overall I liked it. Only problem is the barrels on the main turrets all had slightly different lengths and I don’t like that.
