My Good Friend the Rattlesnake: Stories of Loss, Truth, and Transformation Paperback – October 14, 2014

I would recommend this book to anyone that feels a little lost, isolated or just needs something different. I love all the The Ruiz’s Families titles. All are must reads!

Powerful. There are so many truths of life in this book and it comes from references of the author's actual life. Will reread at some point again.

Self-control is the greatest mastery...this is what comes through clearly for me in Jose beautiful testimony. What has stayed with me...The image of the young rattle snake as a creature which is impetuous in its bite, releasing all its venom...and the truth which follows, as illustrated in Jose's testimony...there is priceless "soul" value in maturity where we may learn to control our venom...perhaps not to bite nearly ever. We learn to resist and say NO...but mostly with an exclamatory shake of the tail as our warning...that is, by using our words, impeccably.It's false and unfair to compare Jose's work with that of his father. He is his own voice and person, and in my opinion this wonderful heart-centering book is well worth "hooking into" for transformative lessons, for powerful tools. Read slow and listen, under the words. Thank you Jose!

These are excellent teachings for anyone, but I think they will prove especially so for young guys who have had a few bumps in the road. Jose has been through it all and come out where we'd all like to.This great quote deserves to be memorized by every student of Toltec wisdom, "In the Toltec tradition there is nothing to learn except how to unlearn everything that takes our inspiration away."What this book does is present stories from Jose's own life that have lessons applicable to all. It takes guts to put your worst moments out there for others to learn from. This is a great book, unlike anything else in the Toltec canon. Wonderful!

If you enjoy The Four Agreements, the author's father, you might enjoy reading My Good Friend a The Rattlesnake. It reads like a biography at times as the author shares his experience of knowing of the "easy" way but choosing the harder path, thus learning the hard way. It's is easy and enjoyable to read. It includes a few insightful gems and reinforces the original Four Agreements.
