Nice nesting set of cutlery. A little thin.
I like that all the pieces nest together. Nice big spoon, but the fork is a bit thin. Edges are a bit sharp but easily fixed.

Stainless Steel that rusts?! Is it authentic German? Or knock off, maybe from China?
I have an interest in German culture, military, etc., so when I needed some mess kit cutlery, this seemed like the obvious choice. Now, I question whether these are German, or a knock off, maybe from China. Germany is known for detail and quality. So, I would expect German stainless steel to be better than average. So, why is the can opener rusting after the first wash? I had never used this type of can opener before, so, right out of the bubble wrap (more on that in a minute), I took an old can and cut it open. I thought the can opener would have an angled edge, not necessarily a sharp blade, but not a squared off blunt edge. Squared off blunt is what this is. It opened the can and made a ripped up mess of it. So, as with any new cook piece, I gave it a good hand washing with dawn and dried it off with a towel. The next morning, I found that the can opener had rust on it where the can contacted the can opener and in the lettering engraved on the utensil. It is suppose to be stainless steel. Stainless doesn't rust! This thing rusted like cast iron. The other three pieces (fork, knife, spoon) haven't shown rust, at least not yet. So, three stars since the pieces I will use the most haven't rusted. Oh, the bubble wrap. The only packaging was unlabeled bubble wrap. No box, no literature, no nothing. Is it dishwasher safe? Who knows? because nothing came with it to tell you. Again, if it was genuine German, I would expect some packaging... At least a white box with some lot codes. Other than that, it's cutlery. What more can you say about it?

excellent quality
It's a full size, stainless set, designed for soldiers. Several armies use similar designs. I also tried the Hungarian version sold on Amazon, but it was clearly inferior to this German version. (The Hungarian version's knife is dull, the case/can/bottle-opener is inferior and brittle enough to break.) By the way, army fatigues would have a one-button pocket on the outside of your right thigh, so it's close to your right hand, and not somewhere in the bottom of your backpack. Yes, it can be uncomfy when you're crawling in the dirt in a battlefield, but that's not my use case.

Not the same as the original military surplus
I have a non-matching original set of Bundes utencile set of very used condition. I thought I wanted a clean set with no scratches or mismatched manufacture date or manufacturers. The knife is made of thinner gauge sheet steel. The original is much thicker, by about 50%. Yet it came with the better-executed serration than the original, with one-sided beveled edge. It will definitely do a better job of cutting than the original, when the last piece of your provision is the leather sole of your boot. The can opener blade does not come with the beveled edge: it looks as if it was stamp-cut. The original does come with one-sided bevel on either edges of the blade. You will have to fashion your own edge, if you want it to dig into the tin with ease. Grab a Dremel drum sander, and grind away. The spoon and fork are just about the same, but the whole set is definitely made from the softer steel than the original mil surp. I tried to bend the fork and spoon: the original fork and spoon do not bend, but these do.It's a close copy of the original.

I find this a perfect match for backpacking
I was fed up with bent, broken and single use utensils, this took care of that.

No more wooden utensils
Don’t you just hate using wooden utensils?I sure do. That’s why this KFS is beautiful. It’s the right size shape, and everything. It is ideal for getting that critical nutrition down into the belly where it belongs.I highly recommend putting a set in your car. You’ll never know when you can use it.

Exactly as I remember from my time in the Bundeswehr
I prefer to have 3 single pieces of cutlery instead of a "multi Spork". This cutlery sets allows one even to eat spaghetti properly in the field if necessary...LOLBut the main reason I purchased this is the 4th part of the set. It works as a sheath for the cutlery and it includes a can opener! Other sets come with a bottle opener, which this one also provides, but I deem a can opener much more important. Now I got it as I wanted it.
