Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter, Leica R Lens to Leica M Adapter, fits Leica M-Monochrome, M8.2, M9, M9-P, M10 and Ricoh GXR Mount A12

First off, the adapter itself is generally of good build quality and fits well on the lens and the camera body - the lens lock button, though, was rather loose feeling and flimsy but of course did its job.As mentioned by others, R lenses without frame lines (ie: 60mm/180mm/etc.) will not be there neither does rangefinder focusing work as there is no coupling. I planned to use an R 180mm f/4 on an M9 hoping for telephoto shots as well as macro shots with my Elpro attachment. I was sadly mistaken. I figured that since 180mm is slightly further than 135mm that I could use those frame lines and imagine a smaller box in the center to do my framing. Every one of my shots, even on tripod were framed towards the top left corner of the 135mm frame lines, even going further up then it. The top of the 135mm frame would be about halfway thru the 180mm frame and even then about 1/3 to the left of the frame. I could never get what I wanted in the frame even shooting at infinity. The focus was a nightmare as well. I thought guessing and doing trial and error shots would work out since it is digital but unless it was at infinity my focus was usually pretty off. Not to mention my macro shots.That being said, I would NOT get this adapter for any Leica film cameras or anything earlier than Leica M240 paired with an EV to see through the actual lens. But yes, it is a really great and cheap alternative to the Leica adapter. I had to return this was as I won't be able to afford an M240 & EV for a while.

Leica reflex system provided a great number of excellent lenses. Many of them are comparable, for many aspects, to the equivalent lenses of the M system, but at a lower price because the R system is almost discontinued today. This mount adapter makes possible to mount R lenses to M bodies, with great results, because it allows to focus effectively at infinity and you don't notice big distortions or remarkable losses of image and colour quality. The only real issue, with M bodies, is that these lenses aren't coupled with the rangefinder mechanism, making focusing difficult. This problem is generally overcome stopping down and choosing wide lenses rather than normal or tele ones. Viewfinder blockage can also be an issue for some big R lenses.The adapter feels solid, it's all made of steel and metal, and it fits firmly on lenses and camera body. A good deal.

The item works as advertised, feels well made for the price, and cosmetically looks nice. But there was some play when I fitted my 28mm Elmarit (Ver II) and 50mm Summicron (E55). The lenses don't fit snugly into the adapter.I read some forums online and discovered that this can be remedied by inserting a small screwdriver in the mounting plates and then twisting it slightly to separate the bottom and top pieces. Careful you don't overdo it as I did -- now the lens is secure but the fit is a bit too tight especially when you want to mount and remove lenses.

I was looking for a way to put my 20mm Super Angulon f4 on my M9, this adaptor works very well. I am not able to use the rangefinder for focus, I have no problem guessing at focus, the light meter works fine through the lens. The lens is just as sharp as I remember on my 5D MKII and seems fine side to side. Very happy with the purchase.

Had to take apart adapter and adjust to get lens to lock. After that worked great!

I trusted the catalogue informations about this piece is made in Japan, turn out made in China. I informed amazon, photo the item I received, specific I would like to have another but have to "MADE IN JAPAN" as what the catalogue listed. Sorry, the replacement mount came, still the one from China (poor quality, finishing is rough, putting the expansive Leica Lens to your expansive Leica Camera is definitely scratch all the metal contacts. Finally, I purchased a real Leica mount for $350 to solve this case.

Adapter scratched the mounting ring on my camera and didn't hold the lens securely. Low quality product. I returned the item but had to follow up after a month after no refund. The seller required me to find the tracking number for them in order to get a refund. Avoid this for many reasons.

Many users of the old Leica R system will no doubt be glad of any opportunity to imbue new digital life into their excellent and much loved (R ) lenses. This is one such opportunity!! For technical reasons that most will appreciate this is best married to the Leica 240 camera (or later--when it comes)---with live view or using the EV to see through the lens. It is a reasonable and cheaper alternative to the Leica adapter.It may also be worth remembering that there are other adapters (metabones) available for the R lenses to match them up with the Sony mirror-less camera.

Fotodiox ancora una volta merita la mia stima, ottimo adattatore senza difetti nell'attacco e ottimi materiali, unico neo il prezzo x me un poco elevato... Ma la qualità è indubbia. Ho potuto adattare le mie vecchie lenti Leica R tramite Techart alla mia fotocamera Sony in autofocus . Soddisfatto.

E' uytile unicamente con i mirini digitali ( e con questo limite sembra ottimo) ma è privo del collegamento obiettivo/telemetro per cui è inutilizzabile con tutte le macchine analogiche che usano il telemetro (Leica M e Konica Hexar). Volendo adoperare con la Konica Hexar alcune lenti Laica M che possidedo e non avendo altro sistema per la messa a fuoco ho dovuto restituire l'anello che avevo ordinato. Ci sarebbe quello nuovo della Leica ma costa quanto un obiettivo ... sempre Leica!
