Screens and Teens: Connecting with Our Kids in a Wireless World

An Important Book For Parents ... And Anyone Else Living In the Modern World
Although 'Screens And Teens' is geared toward parents of teenagers and pre-teens, it is packed full of good information for everyone. It is certainly not just teenagers who are glued to phones and tablets; it is rampant in our culture. Who has never been at a dinner with others, including 30-40 year olds, who were focused on their phones, social media, etc. It is pretty much an epidemic, that diminishes relationships with others and wastes a lot of time. How many people read books today compared to 20 years ago? Yes, many of those who are on tablets/phones may be reading e-books, but many more are not.I first heard Dr. Koch in a talk from the Colson Center's Wilberforce Weekend. She is really a great find. I knew that I wanted to read some of her books. This is my first, but certainly not my last.I would really recommend this book for pretty much everyone, but especially for Christian parents/grandparents and anyone who is concerned about the overuse of technology in the lives of kids that they love. This work will really resonate with them.

I am a believer in this book!
As parents, we want to believe that are doing the best job possible or at least the best we can with what we know. It's hard when we read or learn something which awakens us to the possibility that some of our parenting practices might not be in the best interest of our children; in fact, we might actually be harming them. And this is why I am such a believer in Dr. Koch's book - "Screen And Teens". At a time when almost everyone - young and adult - is constantly connected to their screens, Dr. Koch compassionately lays out the concerns and consequences of over-exposure to screens as well as provides thoughtful road-maps for parents to create healthy change in their children's lives...and in their own. As a Marriage & Family Therapist, I was also so encouraged with the way in which Dr. Koch explains how interfacing with technology influences and impacts the "life messages" teens perceive about themselves and the world around them. She does not shy away from exposing the detrimental effects of these "false life-messages" on our children. More importantly, Dr. Koch provides sound strategies in moving forward. Dr. Koch's motivation is simple - her devotion to the well-being of our children.Although "Screens and Teens" will resonate with parents who prefer a faith-based perspective, I find Dr. Koch's book to be a critical resource and common-sense guide for ALL parents in this digital age. I highly recommend this book!Holli Kenley M.A.,MFTAuthor Cyber Bullying No More: Parenting A High Tech Generation (Growing with Love) Another Way: A Novel

PERFECT FOR EVERY PARENT-DESPITE THE AGE OF CHILDREN/GRANDCHILDREN
YES YES YES YES YES!!!!! Kathy Koch really opens your eyes and helps you see things differently. She helps you understand the mentality behind our teens/children/other adults & brings conviction into our own lives, as adults. I am all in on her books and am in the process of reading more!!!I only “wish” I had found this book BEFORE we gave our girl her first phone. She’s 15yo now and undoing what has already been done (didn’t take long-just 1.5 years prior) is one of the HARDEST challenges we have been faced with, so far.

This is a MUST read for parents, especially those with very pre-teens who may not have entered the 'gadget' world yet.
Excellent viewpoints on how technology is shaping the behaviors of our children! Great advice on how to combat some of the behavioral issues of teens that rely way too much on technology for entertainment, socialization or whatever else they use it for. Technology is not all bad, as Kathy points out in this book. How we use it and balance it with other activities and social interactions is important. A must read for every parent. The younger your kids are the better so you can adopt some of these strategies BEFORE they (or you) develop some of the bad habits that have to be undone later as teens. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Technology is not the enemy
Great information that is fresh and new to me. I have been poring over the topic of teenagers and their love of video games and the internet. The book is relevant because it doesn't label technology as the "bad guy" which is what I had been doing previously. That did not endear me to my teenage son. And now I realize I was being closed minded. It is the same principle of moderation and self-control for a new age. I believe that this book has helped me to change my thinking, and put things in proper perspective.

More than just a tech book.
As a Youth Pastor I see the effects of technology on students and adults, myself included. This is a must read for parents of teenagers. I've been challenged by this book personally and plan to use these insights to speak to teens and parents. This book is well rounded in many issues that teens struggle with not just overuse of their phones. Grab this book and gain a better understanding of your teen's struggles and the heart behind them.

I would recommend reading this book
Whether you have children or not, I would recommend reading this book. I found it to be a great reminder that 'screen time' is real time. Since time is the currency of life, I'm choosing not to pay too much into the screen and invest more in face to face encounters.

Good book for parents who are concerned with their teens overuse of technology.
Probably a good book but just wasn't the one I need. I was told that it would help long distance Grand parents connect with grandkids. Not about that at all.
