Black Hammer '45: From the World of Black Hammer

A really good addition to the Black Hammer universe library.
Good story with characters from the Black Hammer universe in a Blackhawks World War II type adventure. Slim volume but better than Black Hammer, Streets of Sprial. Must say, not as keen on the artist as I am with Black Hammer's regular artist, but many people like Matt Kindt's work so there you go.Edit - Just reread the book. Revised rating to a 5 star - great WWII story & Kindt's art grew on me. Excellent addition to Black Hammer canon.

Great addition to the Hammerverse!
Compelling story, with cool art by Matt Kindt. This adds more depth and background to a growing mythos. Recommended for fans of Black Hammer books, or to anyone who likes a good yarn.

Outstanding!
Love this series and all the spinoffs. Well worthy of the Eisner win and I cannot wait for the movie to come out!

Love the series just not this book in the series
The book was intact. I just didn't really like the old styles as much as I thought I would.

The Most Disappointing Entry In The Black Hammer Series!
What has happened? Barely a story and the "art" is atrocious. My chicken scratching in grammar school was better than this. And please, don't mention Toth or Kubert in the same breath when referring to your art. I have enjoyed the series for the most part up to this point. Even though it has mostly been a simple idea that has been stretched-out for several years now, with too much of a sprinkling of SJW writing thrown in. I think it's the best time to walk away, especially now that Patton Oswald has joined the team. I'm sure they'll squeeze what more they can from this stagnant idea.

Throughly meh
It doesn't add anything significant to the series or the world, and doesn't tell a particularly interesting story in itself. Can be skipped.

Storia buona, disegni terribili

Decent Story. Art not really for me.
Will start by saying I am a huge Black Hammer fan. I own all the books in the series and have read multiple times.Black Hammer 45 is a prequel of sorts to the series telling the story of the Black Hammer Squadron during the final days of the war. Is told from the perspective of the now old age crew and the story uses flashbacks to fill in details. There are some nods to the main series and characters turn up now and again but it's mainly about the squadron themselves. The story isn't bad. Not as impactful as Sherlock Frankenstein or Doctor Star but ok. The art is main problem as the style makes some of the pages very confusing and the writing style is very small print. In closing not a bad book by any means and if your a big Black Hammer fan then its essential. But honestly you dont need to read this to get to grips with Black Hammer.
