Wonderful Book
This is a truly remarkable book. As Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn ("Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease") says on the back jacket, it's a "one of a kind, masterfully researched encyclopedic reference of lifestyle concepts reputed to result in enduring health benefits" -- but it's also a terrifically well-written book, full of fascinating detail (does garlic really repel vampires?) and medical information (how long is the life of a germ?).Moreover, the author tells the stories of twenty-five individuals who never get sick, which personalizes the book, differentiating it from the kind of data-bank medical books that line the book shelves--and also, for every secret mentioned, the author provides solid how-to advice on how readers can participate in the secret themselves. The secrets are a wide-ranging lot from ones that you might expect (exercise, vitamin c, and a good diet) to ones that are a complete surprise (raw garlic, cold showers, and dousing your head in hydrogen peroxide). The author has tried almost all of them himself (as a vegan, he couldn't eat the chicken soup), and then reports on their efficacy. Myself, I've now tried several of them, and as someone who has caught a cold at least twice a year for a long time, I am hoping that this is the book that will keep me well. I already know that this is the book that I loved reading and expect to read again.

Good Collection of Alternative Healing Therapies
Well-written and researched, this is a great collection for people just starting to consider healing and maintaining their health without relying on prescription medication. Some regimens were new to me, others were quite familiar, and all are presented in an informational, concise, actionable way.

fun read with deep wisdom
If you care about your health, read this book. It is as fun to read as it is useful wise old tips for your well being. The thing i liked best about the book was that I could pick the "secrets" that suited me best- no cold showers for me but some other things are going to be easy for me to incorporate into my life. A very helpful book that will keep me reading for more years to come.

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW
This book is full of common sense, basic and simple combinations. If you already know how to eat right, exercise, get plenty of sleep and sanitize, then skip this book. If you don't know these things, then this book is a great read for you and you should buy it. It was hard for me to rate this book because for me it is a "1" star because I already know what is in it, and apply it. For someone who doesn't know, it is a complete "5" star and it should be purchased. It is well written, easy to understand and easy to read.

Secrets sell this book!
Twenty five of them: Blue Zones, Brewer's Yeast, Caloric Reduction, Chicken Soup, Cold Showers, Detoxification, Eating Dirt, Friends, Garlic, Germ Avoidance, Good Genes, Herbal Remedies, Hydrogen Peroxide, Lifting Weights, Napping, pH Balance, Plan-Based Diet, Positive Attitude, Probiotics, Running, Spirituality, Stresslessness, Stretching, Vitamin C and Yoga. Most of them are common sense. We already know. But it is good to have this list in mind. The book "Okinawa Program" by Dr. Makoto Suzuki, is also a great book for longevity tips. I visited Dr. Suzuki in his Okinawa office. He was 75, but looked 50. His secret? No stress, eat a balance meal, and enjoy life.I recommend this book to all. The book will be better if any research data are collected and presented.

Simple, Unique, and Actionable!
I've really enjoyed reading this book. It's gives a lot of clear reasons for the advice it gives, and it shows you ways to put it into action. It's not full of a bunch of complicated, crazy 'systems' or 'methods' that you find in most health books, but its focus is the nitty-gritty of great health - the basics and essentials that really matter, and make a huge difference IF you use them.I would highly recommend it!

A NECESSITY FOR GREAT HEALTH
There is a lot of information in this book....some common sense and some very important. I'm a pretty healthy person and totally understand the importance of washing your hands often and trying not to be around people who are sick, but I still learned a lot about healthy principles I didn't even know about.I try to eat organic whenever possible and try to grow a good portion of our fresh fruits/vegies but there is still information I learned from this book.
