A Good Starting Point/ Overview of a Superb Actor and Human Being
This book is a good starting place to learn about Martin Shaw of British/American stage, screen, and PBS/British television. Hisportrayal of Judge John Deed, Detective George Gently, and many other fine characters since the 1960's have been uniquely and superbly delivered to his audiences. Those who appreciate him, will also be interested to learn about his spirituality, his determination, and his deep passion for life. But this book doesn't delve into the private humanity of the actor. Instead, it adequately covers, in sequence, the acting experiences in his life and gives one a good overview of the vastness and variety of the roles he's played. So, I recommend it for those of you who wish to begin their research into his life. I am still waiting for someone to write a more in-depth biography, regarding the more personal side of the man. How did he become the caring, kind, thoughtful human being his behavior over the years has shown him to be? You'll have to go elsewhere for that.

Best Biography I've Read
I'm a great fan of Martin Shaw's acting and his body of work. This is a great biography of the man and is also the best biography I've read of anyone, because it is done with respect and understanding. As any fan of the series "The Professionals" knows, there are some varying opinions on how the actor felt about his most popular job and the insights given here make this book outstanding and well-worth reading for that alone. However, every page was fascinating, even though as a long time watcher of Martin Shaw's work, I know quite a bit about him.

Martin Shaw fans
For anyone who follows Martin Shaw's career this book is a must read. It is very entertaining with plenty of information on his early years as an actor. Martin Shaw is very versatile and I would love to read an updated biography of his work. Perhaps Tim Ewbank could continue from where he left off as it would be wonderful to read about his rolls in the George Gently and Judge John Deed series.

he should have chosen a better ghost writer
It is poorly written. Too many repetitions, he should have chosen a better ghost writer.

Poorly written book
Just a bunch of old interviews re-hashed. Also what a same Shaw dumped his young and pretty wife for such a turkey.

Martin Shaw
As I am a fan of Martin, I was looking forward to reading this book very much. The delivery took extra time, so I really had to be patient. What I liked about the biography were the photographs and the fact that it gave me more insight in the life and person of Martin. Having said that, I found the majority of the information rather superficial, which is why I am rating it an okay book instead of a good or great one.

At last - the long awaited book
I did not know this book existed for years and then I had the hardest job to track down a hardback copy, thanks to Amazon I now have it and it is great to learn more of the life story of a fine actor and his coping with life through adversity and still succeed.
