The father of psychosomatic discovery
This is my go to bible to understand the inner working of how the body is controlled by the mind. The father of the stress factor had had no idea he was embarking on a whole new world of the psychosomatic. Stepping back it all makes sense that the brain controls everything. However, it never ceases to astound just how deadly stress really is. Yes this is a heavy read for a novice. I am not a novice I am a dr. However, there isn't any writing that can capture so precisely what is happening to the body during any of the stress responses... It is a must have for anyone's library who is even remotely curious on the subject.

Especially as a historical book it's interesting to here read about Seley discovered Stress.
First of all, I bought and read this book which way back in 1976 was updated by Hans Selye, MD., whom we perceive as being the inventor of Stress, mostly for getting hand in the book to look at the historical content in the book. And in this connection, it was interesting here to see how he during his research time then by his teacher was warned about the subject which had caught his interest, as from the teacher’s point of view it would ruin his carrier. But as the second point on my searching after what Selye wrote about Stress, especially I was looking after what he mentioned about epilepsy, which I in many never books have seen to be noticed in in the connection to stress. But strangely to me, in this book, I didn’t find epilepsy mentioned by just a single word. But all together, to me it was interesting to read about nearly his whole career, concerning his work, in which we are getting many explanations about the researches with animals. But starting on the side 282 we read about Copernicus, Galileo, and Pasteur, and other discoverers, and to me Selye missing knowing about Pasteur seems strange. This after my reading the book by Ethel D. Hume: “Bechamp or Pasteur?”, with the 2 parts of it originally published in respectively 1923 and 1942. By the information in these books we learn that Pasteur actually didn’t discover anything, which Selye ought to have known. And it’s interesting to among the Customers reviews to read Connie L’s remark, with only 1 star, about Selye’s connection to the tobacco industry, and in the 2 comments to this getting much more to known about this. But all together, from a historical standpoint, it was an interesting book to read.

Why I liked this book
This is a very informative book for anyone who is interested in knowing how stress impacts the body from a medical point of view. I've read so many books that referenced the author and this book so I wanted to read it for myself. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in the study of human behavior, or who just enjoys reading about health in general. Stress is much more than a headache. It affects every part of your body. And the more you know about it, the better off you are.

valor
Selye escribió mucho, pero ésta es una obra que lo representa y, si habría que escoger un libro, es el indicado.
