Cuts Fast and Accurately - with practice!
Very pleased, works better than expected. Using to cut light material for hand made quilt. Takes a little practice on scraps to get the feel of how to hold it and guide it with accuracy. Cuts very fast and any stray movement can send you off in the wrong direction very quickly. Only problem was cutting along a narrow edge it is hard to hold material so it did not bunch up, more practice should resolve that problem. Would definitely buy again if needed.

Small Handy Cutting Tool
Easy to operate. Made many cuts in a fairly thick old rug;( maybe a total of 25 linear feel without much effort). Battery charge lasted for a decent amount of time. Could stand a little more power, but performed well for such a small tool..

Product a bit underpowered and tricky to use but I knew this from the testimonials . I pruchcased it as it is perfect for my particular need just to cut straight for different canvas sizes for my fine art paintings. I have a B&D old electric scissors which I used before but it was barely sufficient thobetter for smaller projects especially paper .

Not recommended
Difficult to use - two buttons must be depressed at the same time to operate. Weak - very difficult to cut through all but the thinnest cardboard. Would not recommend.

Disappointed. I had higher expectations from SKIL after years of using their products.
I'm a long time do-it-yourselfer. I used this tool to cut and install our new Berber carpet (94% olefin and 6% nylon). Here are my observations:THE GOOD- Tool is easy to use.- Its light weight.- has a narrow cutting head that allows close proximity to material edges that have obstructions.- Fits hand well.- Cuts carpet precisely and cleanly - as long as the blade is sharp and you keep fuzz from building up around blade and you are in no particular hurry.THE BAD- While the tool fits the hands well - the ambidextrous safety switches (secondary) are not located well for some angles of cutting causing some pain in reaching them for extended periods.- The cutting blade rotation/process is very slow due to the high gear ratio necessary to operate it at such low voltage (4 V) - which should have at least 12V. as in most cordless tools being used today..- The battery doesn't last long. It will cut about 15 to 30 feet of 5/16 thick berber carpet before recharging is needed. This is not adequate for even do-it-yourself carpet installers - or for other thick material home uses.- Recharging a discharged battery takes about three hours.- Battery is built-in not interchangeable so you can swap out with a spare charged battery. This is the single greatest incompetent feature (of several) in the design of the cutter.- No Skill replacement blades are offered on the Amazon site and I'm not sure they exist.- The universal ZipSnip blades that also fit this unit and others are differently shaped than the SKIL serrated blades, allowing them to manually resharpened easily and last longer than the original Skill blade (another design incompetence by SKIL). However, at about $6 a piece - the price of the ZipSnip blades IMO is absurdly expensive for a mass produced ground-on-one side circular utility blade. I re-sharpen them on my bench grinder - and frequently as they require when cutting carpet. Of course you can only do this a limited number of times.- The blade changing feature apparently received no engineering attention is simply a screw - with a non-standard screw head. There is also no blade lock system. The SKIL blade has holes in it so you can insert something and stop the blade rotations. The ZipSnips have no holes and you will require pliers or vise-grips to lock the blade when tightening or loosening the blade screw.- The advertised self-sharpening feature is bogus. The machine has hardened shear point ("self-sharpener") on the foot of the machine which rides against the non-ground side of the blade creating the shearing point. The purpose of this hardened metal tab is to enable a shear force to be generated strong enough to cut thick materials - but it only incidentally keeps the blade edge on the non-ground side clean i.e. from rolling/rounding. It is no more self-sharpening than a pair of scissors. The deceptive if not untrue claim of "self-sharpening" is clearly some unethical SKIL marketing exec's. idea of "consumer marketing strategy" and like most such insulting strategies - is deceptive if not an outright untrue - normally called a lie.Summary: Like many products today - the idea is very good, but the final commercial implementation is poorly conceived and implemented - and generally incompetent even for consumer needs. The tool cuts well if you can keep a sharp blade in it and the battery charged long enough to complete your job. Otherwise your work load/time is extended linearly by the required repetitive three hour charge cycles and no ability to swap out the battery. This is not a professional grade tool design or implementation - meaning it is for quick and light weight hobby applications. SKILs advertising claims are over stated and exaggerated IMO. Like most American tool mfg. brands - the former quality assurance of the SKIL brand has declined - especially in recent years. This product is another indication of that decline.

A Great tool!
Does exactly what I bought it for. Built very well.

A fantastic tool, but now obsolete. Read my review for spare blades.
I would have given this tool 5 stars except Skil no longer sells replacement blades for this obsolete tool. I purchased this cutter back in March 2015 and just recently found out the tool and blades are no longer available from Skil.. However, this was originally a Bosch design for their Bosch GUS rotary cutter, and there are some of those original replacement blades still around. The part number is 1609203W06. I found original Bosch replacement blades at Walmart on-line, but they're just reselling them from a company called Zoro.

Nice little tool. The button on the side was a pain to hold down and try to run it but removed it and it works really nice. using it to cut material for rag rugs. but it works nice all in all it's a good little tool.
