Pride FC Fighting Championships: Grand Prix 2006

The fights and the fighters showcased on this Grand Prix are fantastic and are the embodiment of what Pride was about and what all MMA organizations should aspire to. The only quibble I have is that the entrances for the fighters are only in special features and not before the fights as they should have been. If your wondering why I am deducting a whole star for something like this than you have never seen a Pride event fighter intro. They are amazingly theatrical and really set the stage for an upcoming fight making it feel that much more epic. This should be no means stop you from buying the DVD I'm just putting the one complaint I have on here in hopes that a seven year old DVD release by a company I have never heard from learns there lesson.

Overall this is an impressive tournament with some memorable battles, especially cro cop and wanderlei---you can tell they just don't like each other a true collision of egos. I wish it lasted longer, but there are other matches that do. I'm not too much into mma anymore, it lost its luster, but every once in a while I put this on. return of the warriors is really good too. Some day this will be totally nostalgic and I am going to hold onto it.

the best fighters, the best format, neutral rules (everyone knows that ufc and the cage only helps wrestlers) you cannot lose with this events!

They did not include the original promos/intro from the pay per view versions on Final Conflict Absolute. Thanks UFC.

One of my top 10 Pride FC videos. Any fan of MMA should have this video in their collection. Peace

The fights on these 3 dvds are truly incredible. The 3 events included are, of course, Total Elimination(Opening Round), Critical Countdown(Second Round), and Final Conflict(Third and Final Round). First, the names on the card are probably the most impressive ever assembled. Fighters participating in the tournament include Alexander Emelianenko, Josh Barnett, Mark Hunt, Mirko Cro Cop, Minotauro Nougeira, Wanderlei Silva, Fabricio Werdum, and Alistair Overeem. Also Mauricio Rua, Segei Kharitonov, and Vitor Belfort fight in additional bouts. However, not only are the names impressive but the action and pace of the fights are something unseen in modern UFC matches. I attribute a large part of this to the officiating, particularly purse deductions for passivity/stalling, which, in Pride FC, was designed to produce finishes. And produce Finishes it does. In total, 23 fights end in submission, TKO, or KO, includidng every fight in Total Elimination. Some of the greatest fights I have ever seen are on this card as well. Hunt v. Kohsaka, Silva v. Fujita, Cro Cop v. Silva, Fujita v. Thompson are legendary.
