The Hug Hardcover – October 31, 2013

I bought this for my 6-year-old daughter who was engaged by it, commenting on the minimalist, moving drawings. I thought it was apt because she often craves hugs, and is an only child--sometimes lonely. But I'm also now sending it to dear adult friends of mine--people who have kept me company over the years in a meaningful way. I looked up the author and came across a New Yorker profile--worth reading, and I think the background story of his life sheds some light on the intangible magic, melancholy, and quiet joy and reassurance of this story and its images.

This is a beautiful book, that teaches everyone is unique in their own way and it is important to celebrate your uniqueness. This is important lesson for everyone to learn.
