I Will Look Elsewhere
I find the idea of organizational development fascinating, finding out what is wrong, or finding out how to maximize office efficiency. It's like a puzzle without all the pieces, and you must make up the pieces in your head. Unfortunately, I didn't find this book fascinating, revealing, helpful or giving me any pieces of insight into the realm of organizational development. This book was published by the American Society for Training and Development. I obviously see where training fits into productivity picture of any organization. A performance analysis and job/task analysis go hand-in-hand with training and O.D but I wanted to explore other solutions, such as organizational analyses. The ones it offered were disappointing. As one other reviewer wrote it concentrated on coaching and an organization in transition. I wanted to know how to organize an organization to make it more efficient other than the use or misuse of training.I will look elsewhere.

Practical Guidance
I enjoyed the book by Lisa Haneberg. It serves as a user friendly guide for the front line staff person trying to offer OD services. It is not for the advanced practitioner, but it is chocked full of good reminders and tips for shifting the perspective of clients from negative to proactive.

Haneberg 2005, very interesting, and easy read book!
This is a very interesting book, quick and easy to read, although still very accurate and current. I am reading it as part of my Occupational Psychology studies. This book covers two main areas, namely Transition Management, and Coaching. The Transition Management section covers some very important aspects, of both management and general staff issues during a Transition. The coaching section will definitely make you a better coach, or team manager, and show you things to take into consideration that will make you much more attractive as a resource for employees to go to. Very good, definitely recommended!

Training is not the answer
While it is nice that ASTD is offering a book on OD, I should note that training and development is not the same as Organizational Development. Organizations think the solution to everything is training. We in the OD field consider training just a small set of OD interventions.
