Not for Beginners
I have learned a very hard lesson. If you have never cross-stitched before in your life, you should determine first whether the product you are buying is considered 'Easy,' 'Moderately Hard,' or 'Bloody Impossible.' Otherwise, you may find yourself staring at a blank form and a list of incomprehensible instructions. (For a newbie.) But, I persevere. It is getting me through the 2020 Pandemic. I've had to rip out almost as many stitches as I've put in, and I've yet to learn how to do a French Knot. But, as I said, it's keeping me occupied during the siege. Is anyone else going batshoot crazy out there? I took up cross stitching! CROSS STITCHING! I have dyslexia with number. This was not the project for someone who has a hard time counting. I did not realize that the 'canvas' would be blank. Even so, I am determined to finish the damnable beast if it kills me.Advice to newbies out there desperate to keep busy, if you are going to try cross stitch (against my advice) pick an easier pattern. This is lovely, don't get me wrong. But this is not for the faint of heart. Also, the fabric is the starchy kind with slightly larger holes in each corner. You'd think this would make it easier to count. You would be wrong. My only concern is that I've used up a lot of the yarn making mistakes and I've had to order additional thread just so I can finish stitching off-white tea cups on a white background. I may go blind doing this.Wish me luck, people. And stay safe out there.

Beautiful stocking, but cheap floss
Would really love to give this kit 5 stars, but honestly the floss is terrible. The pattern is very intricate, with tons of color changes, so it took me forever to make. I haven’t done any cross stitch for about 20 years, and this was my first kit going back into the craft. For myself, I would say it took around 300 hours to complete. But that was spread out over the course of a couple of years. I’m sure it would have gone faster if I didn’t set it aside for so long in between working on it. My biggest struggle with this kit however, was how cheap and crummy the floss is. I think I would have saved tons of time if it were better quality. As it was, the floss constantly knotted up on me, and even broke a few times. I frequently had to stop to untangle the knots and even had to rip out stitches several times to go back and undo knots on the back side that I didn’t notice right away. Highly frustrating to say the least. Assembly of the completed stocking was easy with clear instructions. I also took one extra step and purchased some of that iron on backing just to make sure the threads stay locked in to make the piece last for years. It did turn out to have slightly less room inside than I expected, but it’s still a decent size. Overall I love the stocking and am very pleased with the outcome. I have already started on the matching one for my daughter. My recommendation to anyone wanting to do this in a hurry though is to go out and buy your own high quality floss instead of the cheap stuff that’s in this kit.

PLENTY OF THREAD
Normally when I get a kit I run out of thread and have to try and get the exact color at the craft store. This kit had more than enough. I have about 2 extra complete strands of thread for each color. Which was a relief because I messed up a few times and had to pull out the stitches and redo them. But it turned out perfect for my nephew! I didn't do the red French knots on the Christmas tree, I am terrible at them and struggle enough doing the others. But I found that the tree doesn't nessacarily need them. All in all, I enjoyed the project. It took me about 8 months, but that's working a full time job and taking online classes. I'm sure someone with more time on their hands can finish it sooner. I completely recommend this kit! You will not be disappointed!

A Quality Kit
This kit (Row of Teacups) actually came with DMC thread! A welcome surprise. The aida cloth is of good quality, wide enough to accommodate a 7-inch hoop, and I was able to get the creases out. Plus the chart is excellent. I am looking forward to stitching this one.

OK but not the quality I expected
I have stitched Janlynn kits before. I really like this pattern but the quality of the materials could be better. The floss and cloth were not the quality I have come to expect from Janlynn. The needle was rough and frayed the floss. The instructions looked like they were photocopied, not printed. The instructions said the floss was cut into 36 inch lengths, it was cut into 18 inch lengths. The instructions said there was one strand of each color, sometimes there was one, sometimes two. DMC color numbers were listed but the instructions said the floss may not be DMC. I think the finished product will look OK, but I am disappointed.
