The Art of Silk Ribbon Embroidery

This book arrived in mint condition, and I thank the seller for that. I had read from another reviewer that there were not many color pictures, and it was laden with alot of black and white photography, but what was in color was very nicely appointed, there just could have been more. I am a keen colorist, having done needlework for 50 plus years, but I can well imagine a newbie wishing to see more color pictures. A bigger issue for me was that there was SO much time taken up with the history of the art of silk ribbon itself and how it was started in Europe and especially France. Good, no, great background information, but for me it when on a little too long, just a tad, but a little frustrating. The author highlighted artisans of this venue from around the world, especially the well known artist of Australia and New Zealand. Because of the minor annoyances I gave this a four. It should be a welcome part of your library anyway, for Ms. Montano is very skilled and the items and how to do them is perfect.

I own several books by Judith Baker Montano and refer to all of the frequently, the best compliment for a craft book. This book focuses on silk ribbon embroidery, which Montano has covered in some of her other stitch tools and crazy quilting books. The addition here is not in stitches, but in projects and for ways to use silk ribbon embroidery in modern ways. The projects encompass everything from the usual cusions and needlecases to embellishment on clothing. Examples other than the projects are photographed as well to give the advanced needleworker inspiration, including, my personal favorite, an art deco dress with geometric patterns of roses.I bought this as it was listed on the bibliography for a master course I am taking. I am not sorry and will keep this book in my library after the course is completed. In addition to the projects, which form the bulk of the book, Judith Baker Montano details all of the stitches for ribbon embroidery, materials and methods. A solid book for the beginning embroiderer with projects and inspiration ranging from the beginning to the more advanced.

I really like this book, it does what the author says she is intending to do, which is give ideas for her projects or your own. If you are looking for extensive stitches in regular embroidery, this is not the book but if you are looking for silk ribbon stitches she gives the basics and a few more. The pictures help stimulate ideas and although she has a different style than I do with the other women in the book who have their own styles, you're almost sure to identify with at least one of them. Lovely silk ribbon work and some good ideas.

This book has many beautiful projects in it, as well as instructions for those just starting out with silk ribbon embroidery. It also has some great bio information on silk ribbon embroiderers from around the world. Definitely worth buying and keeping! I liked the how to section and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I'm really pleased to own this useful book.

The projects in this book are not what I expected. However, I kept it because I liked some of the techniques they use. I would recommend it to beginners.

Most photographs in this book are black and white, only several pages contain pictures in color. Not very attractive projects. Although there is a good section on variety of stitches with photographs, explanations could be better. Overall, okay book but I would not have bought it if I could look at it first.

a little different techinique but also very delightful. I am looking forward to working with the different types of ribbon and trims.

リボン刺繍が凝っていて色合いも素敵です。見てるだけでも絵本のように楽しめます。わたしはビクトリアンな作品作りが好きなのでこの本を参考にしてクレイジーキルトを作るつもりです。リボン刺繍とボタンやビーズなどの組み合わせはほんとに綺麗で素敵です。
