Size:1" Zurn Wilkins 1" Pressure Reducing Valve, Lead-Free, FNPT Union x FNPT (Only One Union is Included. If two unions are needed, Please order Zurn 1-NR3XLDU). Designed for installation on potable water lines to reduce high inlet pressure to a lower outlet pressure. The integral strainer makes this device most suitable for residential and commercial water systems that require frequent cleaning of sediment and debris. The direct acting integral by-pass design prevents buildup of excessive system pressure caused by thermal expansion. The balance piston design enables the regulator to react in a smooth and responsive manner to changes in system flow demand, while at the same time, providing protection from inlet pressure changes

Poor Quality Internal components causing major pressure fluctuation and bleeding.
This review is for the same unit we installed about 24 month ago, which we had to replace, due to rust of the bolts and screws located inside the system. Who in their right mind would NOT use all stainless steel parts, if the parts are constantly exposed to water ??? A major design flaw, causing major pressure fluctuations, and bleeding for the past 12-14 months. After the first gage failed, I bought the rebuilt kit first, and after installing it, the pressure was set to 65psi. When the water was turn off, the pressure would very slowly increase (bleeding) to 100psi, which could have caused major damage. I ended up buying and installing a brand new unit, which had the exact same bleeding issue at the beginning, the pressure was set to 60psi, but after turning the water off and checking the pressure after 10 minutes the pressure had increased to 84psi, which is still way too high for household pressure. After I disassembled the system, cleaned and lubricated the o-rings, the system finally worked properly (so far 1 day). If you own any of these unreliable systems, you should definitely install a pressure gage on your house bibb and constantly check the pressure to avoid possible damage due to bleeding. I definitely would not recommend this system, due to poor materials used/major reliability issues in the past. If the new one works without any issues for the next 24 months, I will consider revising the rating.

Good replacement but missing one replacement o-ring+mesh
We replaced our original water pressure regulator with its newer brother. Installation went smoothly and water pressure was immediately brought under control again. The only reason this unit does not receive 5 stars is that on the bottom connection the o-ring is bonded to a concave metal mesh that keeps out larger debris from the inflow pipe. This unit came with the upper o-ring but not this bottom o-ring with the mesh. In the end I re-used the existing one and I have no leaks, but a clean switch would have been preferable. It has been slightly over 3 months and we have had no issues so far. Hoping this will last many years to come.

It was a "one wrench" easy installation. Works as advertised
Bought this as a direct replacement for the Zern Wiikens BR4 that was original in the house. It was a "one wrench" easy installation. Works as advertised.

Fits Perfectly & Working
I am not a plumber but I should be able to change this type of valve. I suspect years ago Wilkins changed the serial # of this 1" (attaches to a 1 1/4" line) pressure reducing valve -- I had a BR4. It appeared the NR3XL was the same length as the BR4, so I ordered it. It arrived as expected, it was smaller in size but most importantly the same length as the BR4, I watched two UTube videos about how to change out the valve, gathered the tools, thought about potential problems and contingencies and did what was necessary to change the PRV. The change-out went well and the valve is working great. Hope this one lasts as long as the 1st one -- 17 years. Wilkins stated the pressure setting of the new valve was 50 psi, I checked after installation and have 59 psi -- which is good.

See update in review - 5 stars new in box, easy replacement...
Update... Adjusted the pressure on the outflow side to 70 psi. True to the documentation the regulator comes preset at 55 psi which was a bit low for our home. Regulator handles multiple water fixtures simultaneously with no problems and very little (5 psi dip) pressure fluxuation.New in box and replaced same model perfectly...

Working perfectly so far!
Installed in the water line for the house, exactly the same as the original, and it was easy to install!

Works great at first but fails quickly.
Worked alright for about 18 months. At that point pressure would randomly get extremely high and then lower once a faucet was turned on. This damaged both my fridge water line and a bathroom faucet. I’ll look for another brand to replace this one and hope for the best.

Good for low pressure only
Pressure drop not good on this model and max pressure lower than expected
