The Real Deal - stick with Awesome Aquatic
These leaves are fantastic and genuine - they quickly release tannins and give the water that "tea" color, and my Betta loves them. I've tried other brands of catappa leaves, and they didn't do a darn thing other than float and sink - they just seemed like random dried leaves. (At least my snails enjoyed eating them.) My Betta always reacts to the Awesome Aquatics leaves - he ignores the other ones, but with these he seems happier and calmer, and loves hanging out under them (I bought the 4-6" size). I've learned my lesson and will no longer deviate - as long as I keep aquariums I'll stick with these. They make my Betta very happy!PS: Apologies - I didn't get a photo of the leaf while floating on the surface, but I did take a pic after it had sunk to the bottom (it took a few days for that to happen). My Betta loves using it as a hiding place. (The other photo is what the leaves look like in the package.)

Good, but slightly weak on tannins
I tossed a few leaves in, and let it sit inside my tank for 2 weeks, and no tannins leeched out. So I decided to boiled 4 leaves plenty of tannins came out. The previous brand I used was more pricey but it at least leeched tannins without being boiled. Good product if you plan on boiling out the tannins to achieve the black water look you want. Cheap and works, just a little extra step however.

Large leaves full of tannins
All the leaves were large. When soaked they leached a lot of tannins into the water.

Great for smaller tanks
These are trimmed leaves but the size works great in smaller tanks. I use these in my 9 gallon cherry shrimp tank and the size is just right. Anything larger would take up too much space.I boil these for 10 minutes before placing them in the tank. Tannins are still released in the tank water even after boiling. Once the leaves are ripe enough, the shrimp start foraging on them. They eat them until only the leaf veins are left. They seem pretty happy with these leaves and have been using these regularly for almost a year.

My Betta’s favorite tank fixture
These leaves are my fishy’s favorite feature in his tank. I bought him a bunch of rocks a flowery betabed, and even a fake crow skull hide—and his leaf has always been his favorite. When they lose their ability to float I roll them up and he enjoys hiding in them and playing peekaboo. Great product that turns the water a healthy gold that is striking in the sun. I highly recommend these! They are packaged well and you can reseal the container to keep the rest fresh.

Excellent whole leaves
Shrimp love theses delicate mulberry leaves. Mine arrived whole with minor crumbling at edges. But if carrier handles roughly they could easily crush these (a piece of stiff cardboard in the envelope would help).
